Louisiana-New Orleans

venue help

Hi, I've been engaged for 2 weeks and I'm new to the knot message boards. I would love some advice on reception venes. So far I've seen Rosy's Jazz Hall, Board of Trade and the Pavillion of Two Sisters. My favorite so far has been Rosy's, but we have some concern with the size. I love the exposed brick and character of the building. We're scheduled to look at Audubon Tea Room, Musee Conti and Latrobe's between tomorrow and Monday. Can anyone recommend additional venues with that same style? We need to be able to fit about 250 people. Also considering the Chicory, if anyone has an opinion about that one. Race and Religious does not have the dates we'd like, plus we're concerned about heat because we'll most likely have a summer wedding, and it appears to be a mainly outdoor area. Anyway thanks in advance for any help and advice :

Re: venue help

  • You may also want to check the New Orleans Foundry.  My wedding is over 250 people, so I feel your pain.  You will be sized out of many venues in the French Quarter that are not hotel ballrooms.
  • thanks! the Foundry is a good idea. I'll look into it
  • The Chicory is absolutely New Orleans and stunning!  Exposed brick, gas lantern, balcony, hardwood floors.  I don't think that it will fit 250pp if you're doing a seated dinner, but if you're doing reception style, it may work.  Definitely worth checking out.  If it was in my budget, I would have booked it.
  • My daughter's wedding reception was at the Chicory last weekend.  It was wonderful.  The food was delicious, the venue was beautiful.  Friends and family had a great time and are still talking about it.  It is pricy, but if you can afford it, it's worth it.
We also checked out Rosy's, but my daughter thought it seemed more like a bar than a reception site. Plus the groom had gone to a high school function there and didn't want his reception there. We had over 250 people there, but did not do a sit down dinner.  We used all the rooms and the balcony ( which was a huge hit as the weather was good.)
  • We are booked for Chicory and if you can afford Latrobe's you can afford Chicory. I can't say enough about how happy I have been!
  • thank you everyone for your help! it looks like we're going to have it at the Chicory! the space is absolutely gorgeous. when i walked in it literally took my breath away. i have never seen a space like this before!

our only concern is we're wondering what the food is like there? it looks like it's pretty basic unless you do the add-ons? @gamergrrl and @plrscott, can i get your thoughts?

  • I am looking at the Chicory for my wedding reception.  Please let me know what you hear about the food.  Thanks!
  • Anyone has prices on Race & Religious? I went to the Chicory and loved it. I'd like to check out R&R first though before I make my final decision. Thanks :)
