Has any bride had/booked their wedding for Abbington Banquets or Astoria Banquets?? (please help!)

Hi Ladies!
I am trying to see if any bride has booked either Abbington Banquets or Astoria Banquets because I would like to know approximately how much you spent. I live in GA but i'm from Chicago and can only make one trip next month to view venues! I have a very long list of venues to look at, but these two caught my attention the most! Anything that will make this process easier will be appreciated! THANKS!!Laughing

This does not answer your question, but I noticed that the two banquet halls you mentioned are in fairly different locations.  If, as the PP suggested, The Astoria does not have good reviews, I would suggest you take a look at The Arboretum Club, also in Buffalo Grove.  My daughter had her wedding there and it was excellent.

Also, in an area more near The Abbington, I have heard very good things about The Seville.  A reasonably priced, well reviewed venue located "in the middle" of the two you mention, would be The Cotillion in Palatine.  Good luck!

ETA:  If you know the specific area you need to focus on, and are still considering options, this board can offer many suggestions.

Thank you so much ladies! I will definitely look into the ones you mentioned!
  • FI and I checked out Astoria when we were looking for venues. We were not impressed at all. The venue is located in a strip mall that looks very run down from the outside. The inside isn't too bad, however, there's a very pungent (and quite offensive, for us) smell once you open the door to get in. I'm assuming it's from when they were allowed to have smoking indoors. May not be a big deal for most people, but it was a huge turn off for us.

Since you're looking in the area, check out Old Orchard Country Club in Mt. Prospect. That's where we ended up booking our September 2012 wedding reception. Their rates are much affordable than Astoria. Not sure about Abbington though. And the plus about Old Orchard Country Club is that it's one wedding a night only. Again, may not be a big deal for most people, but it was for us. All depends on what your needs are. :)

    Good luck!

  • My sister had her wedding back in 2007 at the Abbington. They did a FANTASTIC job and I know she got some good deals (but her wedding was in February, which was considered the off-season for weddings). I would highly reccommend the Abbington!

[QUOTE]I live by the Abbington so I know a bunch of people who have used it for weddings and other events.  They all had very positive things to say about them.  We were considering it but they didn't have any of the dates we were considering.  If you contact the actual venues they should send you pricing information.

THANK YOU LADIES! I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THE ABBINGTON UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL, AND I WILL CHECK OUT THE OTHERS SUGGESTED! <3 <3
  • +1 on the Abbington. I've been to several weddings there and the food is very good & the decor lovely...get the North Ballroom if you can, it is the prettiest because of the windows! (It would be the one all the way to your right when you walk in the front door.) ~Cheers!
  • I visited Astoria Banquets last year when looking at Venues as well  and I was not impressed. It was in a strip mall and was run down overall. I cannot say anything about their food or service - but just the overall look & location turned us off.

    Good luck!

Thanks! My FI seems to like this one the best, so it'll be the first on our list when we visit next month! And thanks for the tip too!
  • I am actually also looking at these places.  One really bad thing about Astoria is that the Bar is in a completely seperate room.  This was a turn off for me, because I know there may be some "bar flys" and they won't be participating in the fun since they'll be hanging by the bar! But if you aren't drinking, or your party doesn't drink too much then you should be ok.  One good thing about them is that you would be the only party there if you had enough people.

The Abbington is beautiful, and word is that they have good food.

Other venues you should look at:
Stone Gate - Hoffman Estates (Good food)
Venutis - Addison (Beautiful but expensive)
Cotillian - Palatine (Very Pretty and owners are easy to work with)
Meridian - Rolling Meadows (nice with decent prices)

    Good Luck!
