Weird FB status

From my cousin: "I have accidently deleted my status before I read everyone's comments so if you commented please do so again. 18 years ago today I lost my mom at the age of 9. I've been without her now twice as long as I had her, no child should have to experience that pain. But I know we will be spending all eternity together one day!"

So, she makes this status about her mother being dead for 18 years, gets sympathy comments, then accidentally deletes, posts again, and asks for more sympathy comments. Does this strike anyone other than me as odd?

Now, share some random/weird/funny comments. I've got 4 hours left to kill at work, Pleeze entertain.

Re: Weird FB status

  • There's a reason I'm not on Facebook anymore.

Recently, a good friend of mine updated her status to say that she was at the emergency room with her husband because he was sick. So of course, I start freaking out and texting her to make sure everyone is still alive and will continue to be so. I would rather she had just called me and talked to me about it, or, if it wasn't really a big panic moment for her or him, that she had just brought it up to me about it the next time I saw her. I'd rather find that kind of thing out from someone in person or through a phone call, rather than through facebook.

But, if he really was fine and she was just trying to kill time in the ER with him then, whatever floats your boat I guess.
  • Fi's SIL constantly posts her every move on her statuses. "Just ate a steak and potatoe now cleaning and putting the baby for a nap.. and oh i need stamps.. thinking of changing my hiar any suggestions? working third tonight iknow ill never get any sleep oh and i gotta make sure i stop for a coffe after i drop the kids off"
  • Well Sarah she had read the comments on commented back several times, because I had told her I loved her and hoped she was ok on the first one, so I don't know really know what the "didn't get to read" part was.

And the second one does say please do so again, but I didn't comment again

Hahaha beatles! I HATE statuses like that, they are just begging for attention!

Good grief laura, I'd be panicked too! I had an idiot friend post one night that he was being chased by the cops, so of course everyone freaks out and comments. He finally writes back and says, just kidding y'all, I'm drunk!

  • Oh, well in that case, yeah its a little odd.

I also have a friend who says things like "stuck at Eriks tonight I need cigarettes anyone wanna bring me some?" or "Anyone feel like dropping me off a six pack?" orrrr the best yet ... "wIll someone buy me a tattoo for christmas/my birthday?"
  • I laughed at this one recently:

Makayla slept through the night....despite having a colic meltdown for an hour and half before she finally crashed....thank GOD I am so patient...and understanding~

I just think it's hilarious that she's SO proud of herself for being patient with her sick baby.

And can I just say, she (and another friend) always use ~ instead of a period.  It drives me freaking crazy!  Especially because the other one who does it is a "writer".

  • Why the hell does it paste so HUGE?  Sorry, didn't look like that in the box here.

  • Maybe she didn't get as many comments as she hoped on the first one and was soliciting for me.  I guess I understand that- people in pain do strange things.  A friend recently posted about his wife's miscarriage (she was pretty far along, they had announced the pregnancy a month and a half prior).  Would I do the same?  Probably not.  But I understand the motivation, to rally your friends and family during a tough time.

  • Sarah, I'd be tempted to say, get off your lazy ass and do it yourself!

CS, that was kinda my thinking too.

kiki, super star mom, that one!

  • Call me a cold beyatch but to me, it's attention-whoorish to me when people post crap like that.

I agree with you but its also what a majority of people do on here.
  • I have a friend whos statuses ALWAYS follow the same format:
**~~ random quote ~~** count down of some kind, followed by plans for later, and a gripe about how much she hates her job.

EVERY TIME it follows that format. You dont have to fit as many thoughts as you can into your status.
  • I just read a comment that someone left under a picture of an acquaintance from high school:

how cute its been a long time i talk to u how r u doing im fine i got to kids nw a 5yr boy dakota and 10 month baby girl her name is mia . how was christmas minds was good.

"Minds was good" = my favorite part.
  • Whit, my comments to her are usually: maybe you should get your license.
  • I dislike when people whore out anything on fb that they're looking for recruitment or participation.  I didn't friend you to hear about your money making schemes.

Also, a teacher that I used to work with got all into love146.org, which I do respect as an organization.  But she got all of her students into this cult like group and EVERYTHING they do revovles around it.  It's frequently in status updates.

    I finally blocked her.

  • Teresa, the funny part of that to me was like she only asked how the other was doing so she could talk about her.

  • I have an old friend that also does 'stream of consciousness updates' to her FB account.

My favorite one was where she lamented having zero time at that exact moment.  Like she had to feed the baby, take the kids to school and then bring someone to daycare or something.

I'm no rocket surgeon but perhaps you'd have a wee bit more time if you didn't stop to tell the world that you're without it!

Whit, that's true as well.  I think that people should be screened before being allowed on Facebook... basic things like correct grammar and punctuation, as well as the "are you an over-sharer?" test.
  • Beatles.....I hate, hate, hate those vague angsty posts.  I am totally going to start responding "How emo of you"

I admit I may be a little TMI on FB but theoretically aren't all social networks kind of attention whoring to an extent?  I know some very private people and they would sooner die than have a FB.  I do limit my status updates to no more than once every day or two, so I am not obnoxious about it.

  • No weird statuses here but one FB friend did just post this picture of her adorable daughter...

yep....she is dangling from a fish scale.
  • seriously with the fish scale!!!!!!!!??
  • I had a friend who would post a "song of the day" about 10 times a day. Drove me insane. She also posted things about me being 'immature' and having a atiitude quite frequently. We arent friends anymore.

  • SarahVinny, that was my reaction too!  There is evenanother picture of it from a different angle .  I was disgusted.  She is someone I went to HS with...if I knew her better I would definately say something.
  • why does this keep moving around different spots on the board?

    that's weird

I'm gonna have to do that too. I have a few people that are always vague and angsty in their updates, but when I see them IRL, they are chipper and fine. And I freaking hate it!!
