I am watching Oprah right now and the show is about a big Hollywood director who has given up most of the things he used to have to live a simpler life. It is pretty cool that he realized that having success in his career and having all of the stuff wasn't fulfilling. He did a documentary called "I Am".
He quotes St. Augustine as saying, "Determine what God has given you and take from it what you need. The remainder is needed by others." I think that's pretty cool. As a Christian, I struggle with what I have and what others' need and whether or not I'm doing God's will and practicing good stewardship with the things that He has given me. Even though I feel that I give a lot, I often wonder what would happen if I did even more. Also, while I am drawn to help others, I have to remind myself that apart from knowing Christ, life is meaningless. If a person has food, water, shelter and clothing, but does not have Christ, what good is it?
What do you think?
