Wedding Woes

Really?

So we had a crazy storm last night around midnight - 101 mph winds measured in my town.  All schools, including the university, are closed today because of power outages and roads blocked by fallen trees.  Thank goodness I haven't heard any injury reports and for all of our tree  and fence damage, nothing but a few shingles are damaged on our house.

But starting at 1am last night people are cruising up and down our stree to see the freak show.  And there are people on the prowl looking for work.  These two guys pulled up while I was getting the mail.  Standing in my yard smoking a cigarette for two minutes while your buddy tries to show me pictures of them sawing up another tree is some other town to prove that they are good at this does not instill confidence.  I told them they could leave a card.  "Uhhhhh, we don't really have that.  Do you have a pen?"  I asked them if they were insured, "No, we ain't got around to that yet."  So I'm just supposed to invite two strangers with chainsaws in for what is probably at least a full days work?  No.

Bidness skills.  They don't has them.

Re: Really?

  • people are all up in your yard, trying to jack your treehouse AND your trees!

  • We get a lot of that around here, too. I forget what they are called...the people who try to scam those who recently recieved storm damage.

Aside from our fence that was knocked down last week, we've been fine.

  • Good Lord, Zsa! I'm glad everyone/thing is ok. That's a hell of a storm!

As for the idiots with the saws - why is it that the dumbest people have the sharpest tools?

  • i saw your pictures - it looked pretty bad, but lucky for minimal damage other than the trees/fence.

all you need is to invite 2 chainsaw-weilding -maniacs into your home.

After our last ice storm we got a lot of this.  One guy was actually quite professional, business card even, and gave a really good estimate.  I called to verify his insurance and he had none.

Shortly after my call to the agent dud called back and offered to do twice as much work as the original quote.  Yeah, no.
  • From the pics, it looks like your H had some mighty good wood in his hand.  No need to bother with those two.
