Disposable Cameras

I want to put disposable cameras on each table at the reception, but am not sure what to do with them next. Should I leave notes attached to the cameras that give instructions on what to do and where to leave the cameras at the end of the night? Has anyone done this or planned on doing this? How do you keep track of the cameras at the end of the night? Maybe say, when the film has run out, please place somewhere? Sorry I'm a jumbled mess in this post. Any suggestions? TIA

I'll be honest - I think they are a terrible idea. My friend did this and spent a lot of money buying the cameras and getting the film developed and only got one maybe two rolls (out of 15 or so) worth of usable photos. And I've heard similar stories from other people.

Do you want to get candid shots from the night? I suggest you just let people use their own cameras and doing a photo sharing card.

If you decide to do the table cameras, I suggest you designate someone to collect them at the end of the night. And have the DJ annouce the cameras are there, and ask people to leave them on the table or in a spot.

Thank you for the suggestion! I agree that film is so much harder to deal with, now that everything is digital. It makes more sense to do the photo sharing, and it's one less thing I have to spend money on! My FSIL just keeps suggesting I do cameras on the table and have a videographer (two things she regrets not doing) so I felt like I should do it per her suggestion...oh well. Thanks Booger+Bear for getting me to think straight :)

I agree with Erin. I like the photo sharing option better. The disposable camera thing was hot about 10 years ago. My brother and I used to LOVE going to weddings that did the cameras on the tables because we would go to every table and take a 'self portrait' of ourselves, I'm not joking either. So, the B&G would get like 20 pictures of my brother and I. Tons of fun for us, but probably not so much for them right!? lol

You ccan do the photo share cards and get business cards printed through vistaprint usually for free (just pay shipping) so it's much cheaper. HTH

I wasn't trying to pressure you not to do them, but I wanted to be honest because I know my friend who did them said she felt they were a waste of money.

Just tell FSIL to be happy she didn't waste her money on the camera's because she wouldn't have got too many good photos anyway.

Plus if you have a good photographer, he/she should take some candid shots of the reception for you.

    I second Kim.

As a kid, we were ALL about the the cameras on the tables. Lots of meaningless pictures of handbags, shoes on the floor, awkward angles and bad self-portraits of children. I would do something else like maybe set up a camera station with a backdrop for people to take pics of themselves against, do a photosharing card, or if you do the table cameras, I saw a wedding that had a "scavenger hunt" on it that we had to get pictures of, one for every picture on the camera, each table had a different hunt. They did it in ryhme form ( HUGE DIY PROJECT - BUT could be made simpler) and included things like a grandmother's tears, a child's smile, a kiss from the bride and groom, a laughing dad, a toasting flute, an empty cake plate too, a sleeping baby, a dancing mom, a pair of bright red shoes, a winter coat, a slow dance just for two.

But it was a TON of fun trying to check off everything on the list, got some pictures that the B & G probably wanted, and kept the tweens busy.

My sister did these at her wedding in August.  She realized she wasn't going to get a lot of great pictures, but it was just one of those things she always had her heart set on so she did it.  She spent about $150 on the cameras, about $200 to get them developed, and got about 20 decent pictures.  If you do it, I would recommend just having the photos developed on a disc (versus printouts) so you can only print the decent ones.

I have a cousin who is about 20 who took amazing candid shots on her own digital camera throughout the night.  She got pictures of all the aunts and uncles, cousins, etc.  For our wedding, I will probably ask 1 or 2 cousins on each side to bring their camera and snap as many pictures as they can.

Gosh, these suggestions are so helpful. I love all your ideas. Too bad I can't think of them on my own, LOL! I know you weren't pressuring me Booger+Bear, it's hard to read people sometimes, but I really do appreciate your opinions!!!
    Thanks ladies!

Grace, I have all the photos from the disposable cameras uploaded onto Shutterfly -- I can share the album with you if you want to see them.  Overall, very poor quality.  Low lighting, cheap cameras...  Let me know and I'll email you the link.
