Wedding Party

Future Sister in Law

Hello All,

I know everyone says don't pick your wedding parties too early but I have a question about how to handle a situation with the future in laws. My FI asked that I put his half sister into the wedding since it is only fair that he is asking his half brother. At first I was a little uncomfortable about asking her since I only see her once maybe twice at year but I understand and will absoutely do it. She is however very "rough around the edges" and very strong willed when it comes to her opinion. Definetly not a "girly girl" like the rest of my bridal party, which is totally fine but I am just not sure how to approach this convo. I have decided to order personalized cards and necklaces for my girls. Any ideas on how to ask my future sister in law without making her or I feeling completely awkward?? Any suggestions will do ladies!

Re: Future Sister in Law

  • The necklaces are very simple silver letters for their names and I think they would all really like them. His sister is into hunting and rock climbing. Not exactly sure what I would buy her as a gift. During the wedding my plan was to jsut have the MOH (my best friend) and his BM (his son) stand up with us and have the other BMs and GMs sit in the first row after they walk down.
  • If your FI wants his sister in the wedding then he should ask her to be a groomswoman.  Period.

When is your wedding? Your profile says <strong>May 2015</strong>. If that's the case, you need to seriously not think about wedding things for awhile. So much can change between now and then.
When it comes time to ask your bridal party (no more than a year in advance) ask everyone individually, in person if logistics allow. If there's some distance between you, ask via phone at the very least...not via email/FB Message/text/card etc.
  • Thanks for the advice ladies! Maggie that's exactly how I feel too!
  • itzMS- I feel the same way, of course I would give them the gifts in person and one on one.
  • HAHA, yeah i know jcbsjr! He has such an old fashion way of looking at weddings, not quite sure he will go for it. I already had to put my foot down because he was stuck on the idea of having an even number of GMS and BMS and its just not gonna happen that way.
  • Edie Bee- I think it is crazy that people get so focused on even numbers. So let's add people we barely know and take out people we really care about. Makes no sense to me!

I agree 100%. And the idea that the sides have to be even bit us on the butt a little. I had 5 bridesmaids (sister, 3 college friends, and coworker) and he had 4 groomsmen (brother and 3 of their mutual friends). FI's brother's best friends also hangs out with this group of guys, but FI has never personally been close to him. When I added my coworker to my tentative bridal party list, he realized that brother's best friend would be terribly offended if he was not asked and there was "room" for him. They have all ben in each other's weddings, and all 5 guys were in the party. FI asked him to avoid drama, and because he didn't MIND having him up there, but we wished we could have kept with our uneven sides.<div>
</div><div>I did have to explain to FI that if one of my girls couldn't make it, that we couldn't ask this guy to step down. *shakes head*</div>
    Anniversary
