Packing for the HM

Hello!

My FI and I will be going to Playa Paraiso in Mexico and staying in an all-inclusive resort. Our trip is from November 5th to November 9th.  I am kind of clueless as to what I will need, since this is literally my first time going to the beach!  Any suggestions or advice?  I have some ideas in my mind, but I just need some reinforcements lol

I have a standard packing list in the link above my siggy pic if you would like to check it out, under travel tips,. It's in excel and also downloadable so it can be customized. I also have a section on packing in my travel tips. HTH
  • Things you WILL need
    bathing suits
    shorts/skirts
    tops
    sandals/flip-flops
    under garments
a simple dress for the "fancy" restaurants most all-inclusives have
hat (if you like, to shade your face. The sun is intense there)
    sunscreen
Also, if you plan on going off-resort at all (any sight seeing, etc), make sure to bring socks and comfortable sneakers for all of the walking.
Honestly, beyond that, I didn't need anything else fo the entire week I was there a few years back.
    Praying for a miracle!
  • Books or magazines to keep you entertained at the pool/beach. A beach bag. It can just be a simple reusable shopping bag. I always use this to hold my book, water, sunscreen, and towel. I'm weird, but I like to take travel sized hand wipes when I'm at the beach if I know I'm going to be eating at the beach to wipe the sand off my hands, but at a resort you can run to the bathroom.

    <div>your welcome. </div>
  • -Wedding invite and program: we showed these when we were checking in to prove we were HMers and got a free massage and beach dinner
    -Sunscreen
-at least 2 bathing suits for each of you
-for your FI: 2 pairs of pants and at least 2 collared shirts (you should be able to check online for your resort; a lot of resorts require men wear pants/collared shirts for dinners)
-Ziplock bags: use this this keep your camera/books/mags/money dry and sand-free when going to the beach
-Shoes that strap to your feet if you plan on doing an excursion
    -Beach bag and camera bag
    -Sunglasses
-Aloe vera (in case you burn)
-Wristlet: you don't really need a purse, but it is nice to have something to carry out chapstick/roomkey/money/camera

  • I would bring bunches of dollar bills for tips.  Some resorts say tipping isn't necessary, but we generally do anyways--will get you better service at the pool bar, etc.

    birth control.

Try not to overpack.  Generally you'll probably spend most of your day in a bathing suit and cover up, so you won't need much more than that, plus some sundresses for evenings.

Books and mags...more than you'll think you'll need--I burn through books on beach vacations, especially when there are also long plane rides.

    phone chargers!!!
  • for only 4 days you wont need much-small carry on suitcase.  2 swimsuits each, 2 beach cover ups or skirt/tank, a few outfits for dinner, 3 pair of shoes-flip flops, dressy for dinner and flat dressy,  underwear, medications, sunscreen, make up. that's the basics.

  • Thanks ladies!

hz;  I never even thought about the invitation idea!

Katred:  I am a BIG reader, so definitely bringing some material :)

ali:  thank you for your advice...definitely will try to limit our luggage...we were planning on bringing a carry on, as well as checking a bag, but that is mostly because I plan on doing some shopping and didn't want to have to buy a bag for the extra stuff...

  • ditto on the dollar bills.  We were rationing them  by the end of our last Mexican vacation because we were using them for excursion tips, tips for our transportions to/from airport, tips for the bellhop, etc.  You don't need to give much in Mexico... a dollar or two goes a long way.
