Bridal Registry questions

Hi again,

Need advice on doing our bridal registry. FI and I own our home, we both had our own places prior with nice stuff, so we have a fully stocked kitchen and house. Not sure what to register for. I think there are few things here and there, but nothing major!

My grandmother said to put cash on the invites, but I think that is kind of tacky. What about HM registry, though we don't know where we are going yet!

Can we register for things like a grill? What have others done in similar situations?

You can do a home depot registry or a honeymoon registry but I'm not sure if you need to know where you are going or not.

But whatever you do DO NOT request gifts/cash of any sort on your invite. Your family/friends/bridal party will have to let the guests know what to do in terms of gifts IF/WHEN people ask.

Edit:the home depot one is where you register for grills/patio furniture or tools.

Oh my FI would love to do home depot! ha. I'll stay away from the invite. I just didn't want my family doing anything that came off as tacky. What some think as okay others could see as tacky ya know. My FI family are tough, so I don't want to give them any reason to attack me/family/bridal party for being rude/disrepectful.

There will always be people who will want to get you *something*, so personally I vote for registering for things you can always use or decorative things you can switch out as the seasons change ... towels, bedsheets, basic linens, maybe some tablecloths or cloth napkins, doormats, etc.

Do you have any appliances that could use an upgrade? Any fun kitchen gadgets you'd like (panini press, waffle maker, stuff like that)? Do you want new luggage? Are there any fancy things that you would never buy on your own, like fine china or crystal? Maybe you could do an Amazon.com registry for some more non-traditional stuff.

I agree with you, outright asking for cash is really tacky (EDIT: I thought you meant putting "cash" or gift card requests on the actual registry. Now I see that she wanted you to actually include that on the invites. Noooooo!!!!! No registry cards or information, either. Let the bridesmaids spread that through word of mouth if they choose to throw you a shower).

I'm personally not a fan of the honeymoon registry. I think the best you can do is quietly tell your parents and bridesmaids that, if anyone asks what you guys want, they could say something like, "Well, they have a Macy's registry set up, but I also know that they're saving up for a honeymoon/remodeling some rooms in their house/a bigger house down the line" and then just hope that people get the hint.

I personally don't see a problem with registering for a grill. I know some people here have done things like that, or power tools. My FI and I are in a small apartment so we didn't consider things like that. As long as everything on your registry isn't crazy-expensive! A grill's something I'd probably only buy for a sibling or a best friend, but I'd have no problem chipping in as part of a group for something like that for a less-close friend.

I'm sure we can find some smaller stuff. I used to work at company that got all types of kitchen appliances at half price, and because I worked directly with the owner, I got most of it for free or very cheap, my good china came from my family so I was set on that on.

But we def could use nicer towels and bed linens and decorative stuff!

I wouldnt recommend HM registry, that seems tacky to me. I dont know if HD has a registry system.

Do you celebrate Christmas and want a nice fake tree? How about some board games? Towels and sheets often need to be replaced. A snowblower? Nice frames to display your wedding photos? New luggage? Some "dream" items you thought you'd never have, like Le Creuset or All Clad? Do you camp? Camping gear?

Perhaps consider a small registry at a home store like Home Depot or Loewe's and a registry on Amazon to catch all the rest.

If people ask, your bridal party can quietly suggest, "Well, they are saving for..." but I wouldn't want your in-laws to have reason to criticize if they do not understand how you family operates, so I strongly suggest not mentioning cash or a registry on the invitations at all.

We own a home and need the grill, the new washing machine, the refridgerator- we made our registry at Home Depot- giftcards towards those items will be great!

We have owned our condo for quite sometime and when we registered I registered for stuff that I needed upgrades like MB said.

I thought the same thing as you...but then when I went to register, I found a ton of things to add.

Are you interested in getting fine china, crystal, nice silverware? That'll take up a lot on your registry.

A good set of pots and pans. I can't believe the difference a GOOD set can make. We registered for All-Clad. I love it!

We also registered for a cake serving set that we used for the wedding...along with the crystal champagne toasting flutes that matched the crystal we registered for.

A set of pyrex dishes.

I highly recommend this Le Creuset pot...it's amazing and you can make a whole chicken in it, soup, etc. My Aunt was the one who told me I needed to have one of these so she said she'd get it for us for our wedding present. We also registered for new towels. I feel like you can never have enough of these.

New sheets for the King sized bed we plan to get.

I think the Amazon suggestion is really good. It covers everything - luggage, cooking items, possible furniture or decorations.

Does Home Depot have a registry?? FI and I just bought our new house and HD is our home away from home. That would really be perfect for us.
