silicone vs. water-based

I am deciding between two MUA who does airbrushing. One says she uses water-based products (prices are a lot cheaper almost half as much) and the other uses silicone-based products. I've done a bit of research but I am still confused. I have never had airbrushing before, but I want to go to one trial for now (unless I end up hating it). Which one should I pick? Money is only slightly an issue.

thanks!

    I found this here: http://www.occmakeup.com/faq4.html.

"While silicone has become a common ingredient in cosmetics, has relatively low incidence of allergic reactions, and is generally well-tolerated by most skintypes when applied topically, the information that is currently available about the effects of its inhalation is substantially less positive.

Silicone liquids, including 244 Fluid®, that are commonly and safely used in hand-applied cosmetics have been shown to pose serious health concerns when the user is subjected to repeated or prolonged inhalationwww.dowcorning.com/applications/search/default.aspx?R=309EN" target="new">¹. Silicones have also been shown to damage both the lungs and reproductive system when inhaled in the mist produced by a spray apparatuswww.sehsc.com/PDFs/Guidance%20for%20Aerosol%20Applications-Sep%2001.pdf" target="new">².

Because silicone becomes airborne during airbrush applications, the potential for accidental or unavoidable inhalation is created. For this reason, OCC has decided to omit this ingredient from all of our airbrush formulations. A small percentage of dimethicone has been incorporated into our Foundation Primer, which is recommended to be applied by hand."

i used silicone based b/c i have very oily skin, and because we didn't want to risk it coming off for any reason.  i liked it - you just have to make sure you have rubbing alcohol to get it off at the end of the night, b/c it won't come off with just face wash.  :)

Jody--what does Aleksandra use? I didn't even think to ask about that.

I don't know. I guess I should ask. I hadn't heard anything about it til this was posted and I did some reasearch. I did check her website, but I don't see anything about it. Sending her an email right now and I'll let everyone know.

    Aleksandra does use silicone based.

I guess I'm not that concerned since I'll only have this done twice in my life.

Thanks for the replies. I think I may go the silicone route too since I plan on getting make-up done for a 1:30 ceremony and I expect reception to last past 8pm.
