Walk Down Memory Lane-How'd he do it?

I've been looking at tons of wedding vidoegraphy sites and am feeling all gushy! lol! I  love hearing a good story.

How'd you FI propose?

Here's our story:

Last August, we went to a national theatre festival and attended a play with an all male AA cast called The Resurgents. We loved the play and during one of the acts they did a piece talking about why they loved black women. During the play, the cast picked me from the audience to participate in a monologue. At the end of the play the cast called me to the stage to thank me for participating in the play, as well as invited my boyfriend to the stage to thank him for him being a good sport. As I turned to leave from the stage, they asked me to wait, take a seat on stage and then my boyfriend proposed!!

I was in completely shocked! (I kinda felt like it was coming, but I was thinking more so 1-3 months), so much so that as I started to cry, I thought I saw the mirage of my parents and his father in the audience. However, it wasn't a mirage.  They couldn’t attend the show because it was sold out but when my FI proposed they were able to come into the theatre. He’d worked with the director for about a week prior to set everything up. It was amazing!

I love that man!

  • I am going to have to sit back and enjoy these because I am still waiting on my "official" proposal.  The Dude just said to me "we are going to do this thing".  LOL!!   He says my "official" proposal is coming.  Yeah.  Ok Dude.

  • Here's our story..Sorry the paragraphs are missing just realized they are missing on the wedding website.  Oh well!

So here we are three years later! Lori and Dedric have discussed marriage, set a wedding date and even picked out the engagement ring together.  Correction, Lori and Dedric picked out 2 rings that Lori loved. However, she was not sure which one she would get or when he would propose.   Dedric mentioned that he wanted to take Lori out for a long overdue romantic dinner and set a date on June 24th.  Lori thought this could be it but did not want to get her hopes up.  So she did what she would do on any normal Friday and worked.  This Friday was particularly busy for Lori.  Her team was in Canada preparing for a launch the new system.  While completing some last minute testing, one particular item was not working as expected and Lori was required to work with the team to figure out why.   Lori ends up working more than the normal 8 hours a day on this Friday and is extremely stressed, but manages to get ready for dinner.  Lori jokingly asked Fletcher, “Hey do you wanna go to our usual Mexican restaurant instead? I’m kinda tired.  It’s been a long day.”  But Dedric insists that they keep their reservations.  They arrive at Ray’s on the River, where the waitress asks are you celebrating anything special.  They both say no and enjoy a wonderful meal.  Once the meal is complete, the waitress asked if they would like to see the dessert menu.  Lori quickly says no without waiting for Dedric to respond. However, the waitress says, “Ok I’ll bring out dessert”.  Lori is confused thinks she must not have heard her and continues talking to Dedric.   Lori spots the waitress out the corner of her eye lightening a candle but doesn’t think twice because there are other tables.  The waitress appeared at Lori and Dedric’s table with a nicely decorated plate reading “Happy Birthday to You” and places it in front of Lori.  Confused Lori stares at the plate saying “Excuse me, it’s not my birthday.  It’s not my birthday.  It’s not my birthday.” All the while Dedric is asking her to marry him.  She final stops talking for a second and Dedric asks, “Do you see the box on the plate?” “Yes”, she responds.  He says, “Well open it then.”  Again she starts saying but it’s not my birthday, it’s not my birthday.  Nervously, she opens the box to see the most beautiful emerald cut engagement ring!  She then looks up and asks, “Did you ask me to marry you?”He says yes and asks the question again!  Obviously, she said yes!

  • Our love story begins about 5 years ago. Brandon was substituting for the teacher next door to me and after hearing my voice for the better part of the day; he came over and introduced himself. He told me that he was impressed by my classroom management and I thought he was very handsome. We chatted and made friendly conversation between class changes and the next day when he asked me out… I turned him down flat!! He says that I “gave him the 1-2” but the reality is that I was already attached. How could I have known I was turning down my future husband??? It just wasn’t time for us to be together yet. I like to think that GOD was still preparing us for one another.Fast forward three years, I am still teaching at the same school, in the same classroom and Brandon had just been hired as the new band director. At first we just left things at the cordial hello in passing. However, it was not long before those “hellos” turned into brief chats, those chats turned into long conversations in the parking lot after school. What I love most about our relationship is that we truly were friends first. Things really clicked between us just before the Winter break of Brandon’s second year at our school. Brandon asked me to have a drink with him so that we could “start the break off right.” This time, I accepted. And the rest…is history

  • My fi proposed on christmas eve of 2010. We usually don't exchange gifts but this year we decided to. I knew fi had my gift and I hate surprises. I asked him if he could give me my gift early. He proposed to me in our bedroom. Fi has originally planned to propose at christme as dinner. My sister said I messed up his proposal but I didn't even think he was going to buy me a ring. I thought it was going to be a necklace or a gift card. Oops! Lol
  • Aww....I love great proposal stories. Here's mine:

It was last Aug. and at the time, my now fiance and I were on staff of our church's youth ministry. That month, the pastor was delivering a sermon series to the teens on relationships (i.e. how to recognize a wholesome one, how to keep one, etc). It started off as a regular night, me running concessions while he conducted security. When it was time for the sermon, I noticed my fiance was nowhere to be found (we usually try to sit together and listen) but I just dismissed it because sometimes he gets caught up with other things in the church. The pastor was preaching and started talking about examples of true Christian relationships, then he calls me up to the front of the room. Now, I'm a shy girl (and everyone who knows me is aware of that) so I thought it a little strange that he called me up without prior notice but again, I dismissed it as spur of the moment thing and I thought he wanted me to share my relationship testimony to the youth. I stood there and the pastor was talking but his words quickly turned to "womp, womp, womp" (like the Charlie Brown cartoons lol) when I spotted my fiance emerging from the audience with a mic in his hand. Of course, I was surprised and confused about what was going on. He then began professing his love for me and got down on one knee and pulled out a red box with the ring inside. Looking back, everything felt like a blur because the whole room was exploding with cheers and applauds and I was holding back tears. Later on, he told me that he was afraid that I'd be upset about the public proposal because of my shyness but he just couldn't resist sharing this big moment with people special to us. I assured him I wasn't upset and that I thought it was so romantic. Now, we wait anxiously for the wedding day!

  • Awww... nice stories!!! And loved how the pastor's voice turned to "womp womp womp!"

    Ok... I'll go.

We went to a Lalah Hathaway concert and had dinner beforehand (at the venue) with a couple that were FI's friends (my first time meeting them). After dinner and before the concert, I went to the ladies room, and the guys said they were going to look at some of the merchandise that was being sold. Then we all went in for the concert. We were in the second row, right in the middle.  Before the concert started, FI was looking all sick and nervous, and I thought it was because he's kind of claustrophobic, so I was saying, 'worst case scenario, we could jump out through the stage if we had to..." Little did I know what was coming.

Lalah was singing away and then someone brought her a note from her mother in the middle of the concert. She was saying that she couldn't read the note, and asked someone to bring her mother in. All the while, FIs friend kept shouting, "yeah, that's real, that's real," and I was looking like "what is up with HIM?" Then Lalah's mother came to the side of the stage, and she went off and talked to her for a while. At this point, FI was videotaping -- he takes pictures and videotapes EVERYTHING, and I just figured he wanted to see Donny Hathaway's woman on camera ???

Anyway, Lalah returned to the mic and said, "Where's Kenny?" And at that moment, I KNEW what was happening. I just put my hand in my head and was soooo embarrassed, impressed.. He raised his hand, and she asked, "you want me to read this whole note?" And he said, "just the basics." She said, "Oh, the basics? That you're in loooovvvve." :)

Then, the background singer came out and gave him the mic so he could pop the question. Lalah said, "Ok Kenny, you have 47 seconds!" Then he did it.... I said "absolutely" really quietly, and then they put the mic in my face and I said, "yes." Then the crowd all started cheering and everything! It was amazing...

Had to give him props on it...  Oh... when they went to look at "t-shirts," they were really asking -- right there that night -- to work it into the show...

  • Awwww loving all of the proposals.  Here's mine...

Christmas 2010 was a huge holiday for Esha.  For months she dropped not- so- obvious hints about getting married and even asked for an engagement ring with a proposal for Christmas.  However, on Christmas morning there was no ring under the tree.  Antonio explained to Esha that he loved her very much and that he only wanted to make her happy.  Esha understood and was not totally crushed because she received tons of gifts with Antonio's initials.  He also promised to make her a bride-to-be within the next year.

The last gift Esha received on Christmas was a trip to New Orleans on New Year's Eve.They traveled to New Orleans with two other married couples, one of which was celebrating a birthday.  The weekend was jam- packed with fun and leisure.  On the evening of New Year's Eve a dinner was planned for Antonio's friend Eugene's birthday.  Reservations were made at Cheesecake Bistro and everyone attended.  The restaurant was very modern with a romantic feel.  The tables were lit by candlelight and the restaurant was dimmed with red light as well.  Eugene's wife announced that it was time to eat the "birthday cake," and explained that the cake was not what she ordered and she wanted us to see before she gave it to Eugene.  She took the cake around the table and showed it to everyone at the table.  Esha was the last person to see the cake that did not read "Happy Birthday" but "Will you marry me?"  After realizing the cake was meant for her and seeing Antonio down on one knee, Esha replied with a "YES!"
