How much should i tip?

So I'm putting together the list of everyone I have to tip the day of the wedding and the photographer is the only one I'm confused about. We are having to photographers and the main one is also the owner of the company. I won't be making my final payment to the photog until after the wedding when we pick up our pictures & albums. So how much should I tip the main photographer who is also the owner and how much should I tip the assistant?

Re: How much should i tip?

  • Rule of thumb is that you don't tip the owner of the company, no matter what the service is. They're the ones keeping all the money from your payments, so they don't get tipped.

Everything else I read said to tip around $10-20 per person (unless it's a delivery person and then only get $10). But it's up to you based on how they perform at their job. If you're happy, give more, if you're not, give less or nothing.

Actually, this is very untrue.  Most legitimate business owners do not keep all the money.  They pay themselves a salary just like everyone else.  A lot of times, the owner of a business will earn less then the employees, sometimes even going months without an income.<div>
<div>IMO, tips are meant to be given to people who go above and beyond.  If your photographer goes above and beyond, they deserve a tip.  If they don't, no tip.  Easy as that.  It shouldn't matter if they own the company or not. Are you not going to tip the minister because it's his church?  </div></div>

I believe in a lot of things. I believe in fresh tennis balls, the healing power of bunnies, and that the novels of Susan Sontag are something I'll never read. In fact, I don't even know who Susan Sontag is. What is she... like... a painter? I believe in Crystal Lite because I believe in ME. I believe in the movies of Val Kilmer, though these days it ain't so easy. I believe in Darren Sproles, the word "dabble", the first season of "Silk Stockings", and big, warm, moist, gooey chocolate chip cookies that melt in your mouth and all over your face.

  • I'm at a loss by how much to tip as well, although I do knwo we will be tipping a few of our vendors even though they are owners. Some totally deserve it. Others, not so much :/
