Cultural clash over how much to spend when NO ONE is in a position to provide the fairytale (including the bride's family) that is "expected" by "The Family."  Not starting one's life in larger debt than that already incurred by school and personal constraints are immaterial to "The Family."  How to promote sanity so that the moment of love is not lost in this anticipated hoopla.  Thanks

    If said B & G are seeking financial assist due to "Fairytale" dreams by Moms, not because they want to, then it seems like a recipe for disaster for the rest of their lives...

    From your OP, sounds like bride and groom need to be adults and tell "The Family" they are having the wedding they can afford, not what someone else expects.
