Things you BEST love about Indian / South Asian weddings

So...I posted a thread about what we don't like about SA weddings.

What do you love?

In general what I like is -All the family and friends together in one place at one time, that moment never comes again!
In relevant to South asian weddings-In our ceremony there is a part where when you are taking phere (circles) behind your husband..the brothers hold you and pass the bride from one brother to another as a sign of protection and love..am very much looking forward to that!

I think it's our ceremony. There is none like it. We get the blessing of God by the crowning, the blessing from the parents by the Mathagory, the tying of our marriage by the Thali, and the exchanging of the rings which is normal but something I so can't wait for!!!

I have never heard of the tradition with the brothers to symbolize protection during the pheras. I have one brother and the thought of this gets me teary. Ugh, how am I going to make it through a whole day?

I have never seen an Indian wedding in person - only in pictures - but the thing I like best is all the color and the festivity. And it seems that no two Indian weddings are alike. There are all the basic trappings, sure, but the traditions vary by region and by couple.

They're so different from the run-of-the-mill, short in comparison and pretty much all the same Baptist weddings that I've seen a million of since I was a little kid. White dress, black tux, matchy attendants, and the same old hour-long ceremony: candle lighting, processional, prayers, seating, songs, sermon, vows, rings, unity candle, more prayers, kiss, recessional, guest exit. Then 45 minutes of pictures followed by receiving line, reception with no alcohol or dancing and minimal music, cake, couple goes off to wherever they're going. Predictable and boring.

I think for me, beyond all the other amazing stuff, it's in the Hindu ceremony when the sheet that separates Bride and Groom from seeing eachother comes down and they see eachother for the first time...I hope he cries, I will be!

Favorite part of a wedding period is when the bride walks down the aisle and the groom sees her for the first time!! I can't wait for that moment!!

The food!  Also love that pin drop silence is not required during the ceremony.  Those who want to watch will sit and watch, those who want to hang out in the hallway can leave and not offend anyone.

Oh, I HATE when people are yammering on during weddings. It's their day, it's their moment, I think people should just respect it. Sure, it'd be nice if they get up and talk in the hallway, but for me, the purpose of them being there is the wedding itself! Unless it's a crazy conversation, I don't see why people have to disrupt the wedding and get up / sit down inbetween chatting.

I have to agree with Sonali, I find it rude when people chat during the entire ceremony. Is it because Hindu ceremonies are usually very long? Ours will only be 1 hour or less, but my family can't resist talking and walking around during wedding ceremonies.

Anyway, my favorite part about South Asian weddings is the food...I love me some Indian food.
