Minnesota-Minneapolis and St. Paul

Best value venue

I'm starting my venue search and would like to know if any of you MN knotties can vouch for a venue as having a great value. We aren't interested in parks or places with high food/drink minimums, but any suggestions would really help. Thanks!

probably a place where the minimum amount of money you must spend is really high.  I'm having my reception at Royal Cliff in Eagan and the minimum on a saturday is 4500

A lot depends on what part of the cities you're interested in---we considered a ton of places and the best value ended up being the Eagan Community Center. Many brides have had their weddings there and had very positive experiences.  The rental fee was $1450 this year. It's the catering that makes the biggest price difference I learned and this was by far the cheapest we saw.  The buffets starts at $12 a person---we upgraded to all of the nice silver and linens and added 3 appetizers and a chocolate fountain for 2 hours and it comes to $31 a person.  (We also looked at Earle Browne Heritage Center, Mpls City Hall, and Atlas Grill).

Mississippi Dunes is pretty reasonable--especially if you opt for a day other than a Saturday

I'll second the Eagan Community Center.  Their catering choices (they have a few caterering companies you can pick from) are very reasonable, and the center itself doesn't have a minimum requirement on food or beverage.  This was one of the deciding factors for us.  The two caterers we met with didn't have the fees like cake cutting or corking.  With one we're looking at about $20 pp without cake.

I would recommend considering a Fri evening wedding.  You'd be amazed at the discounts some venues offer.  We are having ours at the Mermaid in Mounds View.  It's nicer than I expected and much cheaper than the other places we were checking on.

We found Summit Manor in St. Paul to be a great value.  They include a lot of extras (like flowers for all the tables, linens, cake cutting, etc) and you can bring your own alcohol.  Prices per plate were around $18 - $25, depending on what you wanted. The owner was great to work with and made sure that everything I requested was done, included saving me out a piece of cheesecake to take home with me that night.  I have a full review posted in my bio.

I am using Afton Alps in Hastings, Minnesota.  There aren't any minimums and plates range from $13 up to $21 per person with a Saturday rental of $850.

<div>ditto.  what do you consider to be "high"?  We're at Profile Event Center (PEC) and our Sunday minimum is only $2750.... that was about the lowest we could find.  Our room fits about 300 if needed too.</div>

Our reception is Royal Cliff Hall in Eagan, MN. We felt like we got the most for our money at this venue. While it isn't the most beautiful place, it is a large room that you can decorate as you wish. It can hold like 700 people, or something ridiculous like that. They provide the food for the event...and it is AMAZING Italian food. I believe our minimum is $3500 on a Saturday. It was the cheapest place that we could find that could hold our number of guests. And they are wonderful to work with :)

We found Treasure Island in Red Wing to be our best bet. With a minimum food and beverage of $2,000 for a Saturday evening we were able to waive the rental fee of our banquet room. They have plated plates and buffet style meals starting at $18.95/person. Also, if we have cupcakes for our wedding cake they will wave the cutting fee. Our ceremony site on the beach is also free - alas, we have to bring in our own chairs, arch...etc. Also, on the night of your wedding the bride and groom receive a complimentary whirpool suite.

So far, they have been a great pleasure to work with.

I third Royal Cliff.  Not only is their rental reasonable $1,000 Sat, $750 Friday.  The food starts at 18.00 and goes up to 24.  Plus that includes the linens, napkins, crystal and silverware.  For the price it is great!!!  Plus the staff has been amazing to work with.

IMO a high minimum would be $25-30 per plate. We are really trying to keep costs low. We just wanted to bring in desserts but so many places require catering. Ugh. Looking at Summit Manor today. They do seem like the best deal around since they include decorations.

If you are willing to do a Friday or Sunday wedding, Blasidell Manor is a fantastic bet as they have no minimum at all, and the bar is BYOB (you have to go through a specific liquor store, but you're buying it for regular prices).  Their food is about 15-25 per plate on average I think, and that does include a salad.  Plus, they make everything from scratch for the events so you literally can have whatever you want made.

I second the Profile Event Center! I think they prices are very reasonable and the ability to bring in your own liquor is a huge money saver! Here is their website: http://www.profileeventcenter.com/

Our venue, Spill the Wine, has no minimum, and they waived the room rental fee for us. I was also able to bargain down the cost of food and alcohol substantially. The room can fit up to 120 people.

I'm happy to answer questions you have about Summit Manor.  We had a wonderful experience with them.  There's practically no decorating needed (we did a little on the cake table, some bathroom baskets, and a few signs for the bar, menu, etc, but that's it).  That saved us a ton of money.

we're having ours at River Oaks in Cottage Grove  (www.riveroaksweddings.com) and I found the pricing to be very reasonable.  I believe the F&B minimum is $2500.
you could also try the Binz Refrectory, on the Univ of St. Thomas campus.  My sister had her reception there and again, prices were very reasonable.  You are required to BYOB, but that was also a cost saver.  http://www.stthomas.edu/dining/files/BinzCateringMenu.pdf

That's not a food minimum, that's a cost per plate. If you're worried about the cost per plate, I would 3rd Profile Event Center. Their minimums have gone up since we booked, but there are options per plate that are under $25
