Rehearsal- Caterer costs?

Hi.  I know I'll have to call around, but I'm trying to figure out if I should rent a place and get a caterer for the rehearsal dinner or just go to a restaurant.  I love the idea of renting a non-traditional space, but most of the places I've found are expensive.  I would like to do a Mexican menu, nothing fancy, just standard food.  Anyone used a caterer for similar purposes?  Would you mind sharing what it cost you per person or total?  Thanks ladies!

I'm actually having my bridal shower at El Suenos on Laskey.  Don't laugh! Yes...the building is ugly...but their food is awesome, the portions are huge, and the price is great!

They're letting us use the outdoor patio, which is cute, but if the weather is bad, they'll let us move to their front section inside.  We're having a taco bar: beef and chicken, all the fixens, the rice and the beans, with chips slasa, and soda, tea, or coffee...about 35 people...for about $200.00.  And we can bring in our own cake and decorations too.

We're happy to have it really relaxed, fun, and casual. Not sure if you wanted more upsclae or not...but this is my experience.

Our RD will be at Beirut on Monroe Street.  We've got the private room, about 25 people.  We just tell them off the menu what we want and they'll serve it buffet style.  My mom's picking up the tab...I think they quoted her around $350.00.

That's all I can offer in terms of pricing help.  Catering my be a cheaper option if you choose a venue that isn't pricey...like one of the metroparks or something.  But sometimes, when you see the cost of the venue, plus catering, plus decorations...it may be cheaper to just do the restaurant option.

Good luck...let us know what you find!

Actually, I ended up going in a different direction altogether.  The rehearsal will be at the Oliver House, home of the Maumee Bay Brewing Co.  They have several rooms to choose from.  Best of all, there's no rental fee, you only have to agree to pay a certain amount for food, but I had to pay $250 for 50 guests.  So cheap!  Thye also let us modify their buffet menu, so we're doing a pizza/pasta/salad bar which will be cheap!  We even have enough left in our budget to buy a few pitchers of beer.  I am so excited about the rehearsal now! :)
