Balloon Decorations

I usually average going to 5 weddings a year and in the past 5 years I have never encountered a bride that decorated with balloons.  I'm not thinking a lot of balloons, just a few touches here and there.  Are balloon decorations tacky?  What are your opinions on using them?  Any opinions on a balloon release after the ceremony as opposed to bubbles?

Balloons are for birthday parties, not weddings.

If you get those huge round balloons, I think it might be cute. I've seen them used for photos, though, not as decorations. Regular balloons? Birthday party.

I think balloon release would be hard to do - where would you store the balloons? Some places might not allow it.

Check out some other sites because just googling turned up some cute results. Both this (<a href="http://www.stylemepretty.com/2011/01/06/california-ranch-wedding-by-catherine-cindy-leo-youkeun-oh-photography/" rel="nofollow">clicky</a>) or<a href="http://www.stylemepretty.com/gallery/picture/429202" rel="nofollow"> this (clicky</a>) I think are adorable. But I think you're right if you don't do too many, it can look good!

It's really really bad for the environment. Many places woun't allow it for this reason.

As PP's have said, Balloon releases are hard on the environment, and in my opinion, tacky. Balloons just say 'kids birthday party', they aren't really appropriate decorations for a wedding.

I think balloons can be done well (as some of the links in this thread demonstrate), so it's all about the execution.  I agree, I don't necessarily think of balloons as a wedding decoration, but some of the ideas are kind of cute.

Ditto the balloon release -- just don't do it.  It's dangerous to animals and bad for the environment.

Leisel:  I love your pic and dress! Its gorgeous!

OP: I think balloons as long as you do it tastefully.

I would kill to have this vv at my wedding but we just don't have a place for it.  I think it looks like artwork or blown glass.  I love it!

Balloons, like anything else can be "tacky" if prepared by someone or some company without good, professional experiences as a decorator. Flowers can be tacky too, if not prepared correctly. Balloons may not be for everyone, but they CAN (and do) create a wonderful (or dramatic, or formal, or whimsical) atmosphere for any occasion - and that includes weddings. Check out our portfolio for some great designs that can be used for many such events: <a href="http://www.lotparty.com/photos/index.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.lotparty.com/photos/index.html</a>

IActually, balloon releases are NOT illegal in most places. Some places in the US have restrictions on how many balloons you can release (<a href="http://ibaonline.net/IndustryLegislativeIssues/StatesWhereBalloonLegislationExists/tabid/62/Default.aspx) and" rel="nofollow">http://ibaonline.net/IndustryLegislativeIssues/StatesWhereBalloonLegislationExists/tabid/62/Default.aspx) and</a> you NEVER want to release foil balloons in the atmosphere. It should be duly noted that balloons are biodegradeable and degrade about as quickly as a maple leaf. The International Balloon Association (IBA) has written extensively about this and other items relating to balloon safety, launches, recycling, etc. on their site at (<a href="http://ibaonline.net/BalloonsandtheEnvironment/GreenMovementintheBalloonIndustry/tabid/150/Default.aspx" rel="nofollow">http://ibaonline.net/BalloonsandtheEnvironment/GreenMovementintheBalloonIndustry/tabid/150/Default.aspx</a>)

[QUOTE]Balloon releases are illegal in most places, and even if they are legal in your state, please don't.  It pollutes the environment and kills tons of birds and other small wildlife.  Decorate however you wish, but please don't do a balloon release.
