Awesome!!! I used to work with a Dr. that was sorta a pioneer in treating H.I.V. patients and I also worked at an out patient surgery center in the recovery room and there was a Dr. there was trying to find a cure for breast cancer by taking the tumor and making a vaccine per say from it in Baton Rouge. In both cases it was fascinating!

That's the million dollar question. I'm taking Math, English, Southern Culture (I Just LOVVVEE humanities courses), Intro to Computers, and 2 interior design classes (Principles and Elements of Design 1, and History of Interior Design, Architecture & Furnishings 1) I'm technically a college sophomore from classes I took while in service and before, and everything I've taken is/was transferable.  My problem is with declaring a major, because unlike most of the girls on the boards who were already in college/out of college and working in their field of study before they were military spouses, I have to now pick a major as a military spouse knowing that whatever I pick, I will have to move my career every 3-5 years with DH.  If it were up to me, I would major in Interior Design, but lets face it, when I know teachers who can't get jobs in this economy, the only interior designers that are working are int. design teachers.  It's just not a good field to go into with this economy, nor is it a good career to move around with. It's very client based, and how am I going to build a client list when I'm moving all the time? Sure, I could just join a new design firm where ever we move, but I just don't feel like it's the best plan for us.  I feel like the more "responsible" thing to do would be to major in something "safe" like in the medical field (plus I have a ton of experience in the nursing field already), but when I was working in the nursing field I got really burnt out, really quickly (I worked 2nd shift in the ER my jr & sr years of HS, and worked 3rd shift at a nursing home in addition to the ER after HS before I enlisted).

Bleh.. the whole thing just bums me out.. People at work are always suggesting jobs to me, just last week I was told I should be: an elementary school teacher, a personal trainer, a dietician, "get a degree in computer stuff", a wedding planner, and someone told me I should go to clown college and "rent myself" out for kids birthday parties (and to get over my fear of clowns..). Sorry.. I went off on a tangent I guess..<img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" />

From the perspective of someone a few years out of school, it's not so much the degrees as the skills that matter.  I feel like a college degree is usually just a check mark - do they have it: yes/no?  I mean, a really good school or a really bad school may sway someone, and an applicable major might be helpful, but really it's about skills.

If I could go back and do it again, I'd take classes that would give me more tangible skills.  HTML coding, graphic design (being able to use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator like a pro), CAD design, speaking foreign languages, certifications in medical skills, knowing Excel and Powerpoint inside out and backwards, accounting (knowing Quickbooks and Peachtree), so on and so forth.  All examples of tangible skills that you can use.  Specific programs that you're knowledgable on, certifications that allow you to do things in your chosen field.    I feel like I have huge potential and the ability to learn very quickly, but companies don't want to teach anymore - they want someone ready to hit the ground running, and there's just some things I don't know how to do.  I'm pretty good at HTML and Adobe and Excel and Powerpoint, but not really good at any of the above.

I currently work at an adoption/foster care company, and I basically handle all the paper work for all the adoptions in my region (So. Cal). Prior to that, I was an insurance agent... and prior to THAT, a makeup artist and trainer. I've jumped around a lot :)
