Getting in Shape

Intro!

Hi all! I'm getting married in October and am using my wedding as motivation for a life style change. We're honeymooning in Hawaii, so I also want to look good in my bikini! I eat fairly well, though I really don't like to cook so one staple of my diet is (whole grain) pasta with veggies. Exercising tends to be hit or miss with me - my goal is to do yoga 3 times a week and pilates once a week, so I'm hoping that joining this board will keep me inspired! I'm not really sure if I should put running or weights or anything in there, so I'm also hoping for some advice with that.

Anyways, I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself before I join in conversations. :)

[QUOTE]Welcome! Come check in our accountability threads. Many of us have had success using myfitnesspal.com or other free websites that let you log food and exercise. My handle is the same on MFP as here, feel free to add me.

Thanks! I joined MFP awhile back but I'm afraid that I'm awful at keeping it up!
  • Welcome! Loooove your Screenname :o
I was awful about food logging as well, until I stuck with it [painfully] for about two or three weeks.. Then, suddenly, I couldn't NOT log stuff. I was logging for my whole day before I had even had breakfast, I felt guilty if I didn't, etc. It becomes addicting.. and is well worth it.. If nothing else for a couple weeks of checking on what youre doing calorie wise, and carb/protein/fat% wise, as well as sugar wise.

    Hope you stick around!

Haha thanks - I take it you are a fellow wine lover? :-) I'll try to be better at logging - my screen name is glitterngold1014 on MFP but I'm afraid I don't quite know how to add people! I'll have to check it out.
  • Hi and welcome! I second everyone's advice on accountability and food logging. And I also love wine. I live in NY wine country, so there's always an abundance at my house =)

  • Yay another wine lover!

I am getting married November 2 and am also heading to Hawaii for our honeymoon.  Looking good in a bikini is definitely one of my motivations too.

  • Hey! Welcome to the board. I likewise agree with everyone else and would like to add that if you want to tone up you will need to add strength training into your weekly routine. There's really no reason NOT to add weights in, the health benefits just keep adding up :)

  • Glad to hear there are so many wine lovers out there! We always have wine at my house :-) cnf2013 I am jealous that you live in wine country in NY - hopefully this summer FI and I will hit some wine trails in other states, and NY is one I want to go to!

lovelyheather - where in Hawaii are you headed? I take a lot of pictures on vacation, so I'm really trying to get toned before October!

I'm afraid I really don't know anything about weights, so that really holds me back from trying them. I'll have to suck it up and see what kind of weights I need to get and workouts to do with them. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! You'll see me on the accountability threads :)
  • Well if you make it NY I live in Geneva on the Seneca Lake trail. Hit me up if you want some suggestions. You seriously can't turn around without bumping into half a dozen wineries here.

  • We haven't booked anything yet, so it could change, but at this point we are planning on spending one week on Kauai and one week on Maui.  Where are you guys going? Anything booked yet?

I will definitely PM you if FI and I can get up there this spring/summer. Our HM is using all of our vacation time, so we only have weekends available so the next long weekend we have, we're hoping to go away.

We have our hotel booked, and I've been watching airfare prices. If they start to go down, I'm booking the tickets asap. We're doing a week in Maui and then I think a week on the Big Island, but we're not totally sure about that. We really want to see the volcanoes though, so more than likely that's the plan.
  • haha oh yes. H and I always keep no less than 30 bottles of wine in our house at all times. I'm from Washington state (No. 2 in wineries in the country ;) ) and before that I lived in Northern California. We're very much wine snobs. Tempernillo and Bordeaux are my favorites (or anything from the Rioja region). :)

No way!  We did a bunch of Seneca wineries last October with friends who live up there, it was a great time!

That is awesome! My favorite wines are local wines from our area - when we wine taste we usually leave with a lot of wine. One of my favorites is a pomegranate wine made from pomegranates, not just flavored with it.  I'm sad to say that our supply from our last tasting is running low!

<div>Yes way! It is a great time. The Seneca Lake trail is the best and has the most wineries out of all the lakes, so you chose wisely =)</div>

  • No, I can't believe I missed out on the wine love going on over here! I live close to the Niagara wine region (S. Ontario) but 99% of it is nothing special. DH and I went to Bordeaux for our honeymoon. I want to live there. My personal favourites are Bordeaux (the WHITE wine from the region is amazing!), Languedoc, Spain and Portuguese whites.
  • Unchaten, I am NOT a white wine fan at all, but I do love the whites from that region as well!
My college friends like to pretend they are wine lovers with their "Chateau St. Michelle Riesling" *gag*

<div>I'm not a big white wine fan either ("a wine's first duty is to be red," as I hear someone say once) but I love love love the Bordeaux dry whites (esp. Graves). Have you had the Gazela vinho verde from Portugal? It's one of my absolute favourites - plus it's slightly bubbly! The Robert Klingerfus Alsatian riesling is also fantastic, but the stupid LCBO stopped importing it. If anybody can get it stateside or elsewhere in Canada and wants to send it to me, let me know haha.</div>

Thanks! I'll definitely check it out. I don't think I have <em>ever</em> done anything with weights in my life, so it's definitely intimidating. I keep seeing myself dropping something very heavy on my foot :-D

That is awesome! I'll drink pretty much any wine  ranging from sweet to dry. I tend to prefer the sweeter wines, but I drink them like juice so I've been sticking to the dry whites lately. I'm sure that preference will change again in a month because I'm indecisive.
  • OK, now I want wine. Even though I had it on Friday, Sunday, Monday (I HAD to finish the bottle I opened on Sunday while watching Dancing with the Stars) and will be having some - ok, lots - on the weekend with friends in Montreal.
