Help me with the Groom's/GM's look!

I don't know why, but one of the toughest things is figuring out what the guys are going to wear!

Our colors are navy, ivory and accents of gold (no gold for the ceremony though- my accessories will be silver). Girls are in these BM dresses (in navy).

The deal is that fiance likes bowties (not really my style at alll). He wants to wear this one:

He also likes the idea of a dark charcoal suit. Any idea how to make all of this work together?! And what would the GM's wear? I'm lost....

  • Can I piggyback on this thread?  Our guys are doing a medium/dark grey suit and FI also wants bowties.  Personally I think they are a little silly, but I don't have to wear them.  Our colors are chartreuse and grey, so I guess that leaves us to find a chartreuse bowtie?  Ugh... I have this on his to do list at the moment.

I think charcoal and navy go together, they are both neutrals right?
  • I agree... I was just gonna say I really like the idea of charcoal with your colors because black seems to harsh to me. Especially navy and black. For some reason, I hate those colors together. In general, I'm one for more of a soft color scheme and if you can incorporate more hints of gray (napkins or table runners, girls wearing silver shoes), I think it would look really great together!

Here's my advice about the bow ties: if your FI is expressing an opinion, especially with regards to what HE wants to wear, go with it!!! My FI doesn't express opinions unless he really cares or I force him into helping me choose. But if he's blatantly stated what he wants, let him have it because 1) he's wearing it and 2) it's great that he wants to be involved in something! In my personal opinion, bow ties won't look THAT silly because you are having a formal event.
  • I have to agree, I don't like the idea of navy and black together, but I think navy and charcoal will look really sharp :)
I also agree if that's what your FI wants, go for it. They usually don't have a lot of things they are too passionate about at the wedding (unless its my FI lol) so going with the few things they actually express a sincere interest in will show its their wedding too :)
  • I'm in agreement with PP's - navy/black NO, navy/charcoal YES! Hahaha I was totally with you on the whole bowtie thing but FI was adamant that he wanted them as well. After seeing pics and seeing the outfit together I am totally on board!!! And our wedding isn't formal at all hahaha the bowties are all bright colours with each guy wearing a different, even down to both our fathers! It's a little element of fun :)
