Holy crap, 28 posts in the morning thread already?!  SB lives on...ha. Morning all.  Sick pups are no fun, kd, so I hope Atticus is better. My pup story: came home from dinner last night and Charlie had found a pair of swim goggles to chew up.  Fine.  Except that we couldn't find one of the 'eyes' of the goggles so we were convinced he had eaten it.  Commence hydrogen peroxide peanut butter to get him to puke.  15 mintues later: puke, no eye piece.  Went back upstairs and it had become intertwinded with one of his toys.  So yeah.  Made hime puke for no reason.  He seems to be happy as a clam though. Hi B!  Long time, no see.  Where do you swim? ETA: to make sense.

    Aw, poor Charlie!

Atticus has been out for a bit now, he has eaten his breakfast, good sign, and been out twice with no re-occurrence so far.

Now I guess I have a pretty free day, so I may get done what I didnt get to do Sunday, which is clean one or more of my cupboards.

  • Yeah, my high school gym charges $4 per swim (only open Mon-Thurs) and you only get to be in the water about 45 minutes.  They don't open the pool on time and they close it early almost every time.  They also refuse to use lane lines and then micro-manage where people can swim so they end up putting 4-5 people in one lane and the rest of the lanes have 1-2.  IT's just a mess there.

The JCC here charges $37 a month for their express pass, which allows admittance 5 days a week from 11-2.  It's a much better deal.  Thanks for the Y suggestion, though.  I'll look into them.
Hi JC!  Aw Poor pup :-(  I'm glad he didn't really eat it, though. I'm swimming at our local high school's pool right now but the prices are too high and the hours are too short so I'm thinking about signing up with a local gym.  I just have to pull the trigger now.
    Posted by betrothed123
I gotta say as long as they are charging you may as well join a gym, you'd have more things to do at least. Plus, I always used the sauna/steam room as incentive to work out. It was my reward.

  • I agree, Kd.  I didn't even think about the sauna/steam room thing, but I love those :)
Morning ladies! kd, sorry the puppy is sick.  That sucks. Alo and Lbarr since you're both runners and live up north I have a question.  I am probably going to sound ridiculous seeing as how I live in Florida, but do you guys have any tips for acclimating your lungs for running in cooler temps?  I can literally feel my lungs burning when I run right now and it's only a few degrees lower than a few weeks ago.  I haven't signed up for a race yet because I'm worried about the whole burning lungs not being able to stop it thing when it actually gets cold.  I know there is probably nothing that can done but I figured I'd ask.
    Posted by shaydenise
For me, if I'm going to run in the freezing cold that would induce burning lungs, I start my run off with a scarf over my nose and mouth until I get used to it.  Besides that or running inside, I don't think there's much you can do.  If it's THAT cold out, though, I probably won't run - that's usually when the temps are closer to freezing.  Right now in the 40s/50s, it isn't so bad.

Holy cow! Busy spot this morning!

Rainy, damp and icky here today, and that's the forecast for all week. Blah! Totally affects my SAD.

For outdoor walkers/runners in the cold; I live up North, and people here run in -40 (not me, I'm actually sane!) Wear a scarf or balaclava to cover your nose and mouth so the air that enters your lungs is filtered first, and not as cold. It helps. I've walked to work in -43 and my eyelashes were frozen together, but because I had a balaclava on my breathing was fine.

Got my dress in the mail yesterday, and it's nicer than I expected. I was worried about having to buy it sight unseen, but it's all good. Snug, but since I'm 11lbs from my goal, I'm well on my way. And it doesn't even need hemming!

hope all the doggies feel better and the runners and swimmers get to run and swim. I'm supervising a test now and trying to stay awake. I wish I liked coffee. The high caffeine tea isn't helping this morning.

  • I'm good, B!  We've had a great summer, camping and hiking and bicycling.  I'm not looking forward to third quarter and year-end, though - we got bought out and have an entire new company philosophy, accounting system, everything.  And it sucks.
Why would they not use lane lines?  That's just dumb. You'd think a grown man could look around the house to see what needs to be done.  Nope.  I just sent my H a massive honey-do list.  Lol.  He asked me if there was anything that needed to be done.  Uh, yeah.  Have you looked at your 'closet'? He uses the guest room closet and the entire room looks like a 15 y.o. boy lives there.  The bed is covered, there's crap on the nightstands, the floor, everywhere.  Good lord.

I surprised H got up Saturday, made his own list and checked it off all weekend. The only thing he didnt get done was building a box for me to decorate.

You have my sympathies with the buyout and new systems.  Third quarter's always a bear but that make ti that much worse.  I'm glad to hear you had a good summer, though.

JC- I don't get it and have complained.  I found out recently if you walk in and ask for a lane line they'll put one in for you, but then they scrunch everyone that was already in that lane into a lane that's already occupied past capacity.  They just kind of suck.  I got into it with the Athletic Director over it and he's assured me they're changing policies (putting in 2 lane lines prior to the pool opening but leaving the rest of the pool open) but I don't believe him.

  • Poor Charlie!  Glad he's ok, jcb.

Someone responded to my CL ad yesterday directing me to a local lost pets FB page, because she thought a posting was our Muenster.  Sounded like him, looked like him, but it wasn't.  I think we're going to adopt him anyway, since the people can't keep him.  He seems like a nice kitty, and he needs a home.  Cheddar will just have to get used to a new brother.

I usually miss good sales until now, and the price was awesome. This pic doesn't do it justice.

  • That's a gorgeous dress, Jenny.

Yes, we're sad it wasn't Muenster.  Sounded like it could be him - they live close enough, and they've been feeding him for a month (he's been gone for a month).  He's a 2 year-old neutered male with all the same markings.  New kitty is a sweet boy, so we'll make him ours.  Not sure of the name, though - they thought he was a girl (?!?) and called him Princess, then changed it to Princeton when the vet told them it's a boy.  I want to call him Jack.

Jenny, I LOVE that dress!  I want a do-over now.

KD, canned pumpkin helps "slow things down" so to speak in dogs just in case poor monster pup continues to have issues.

Pepper Jack would be a perfect name.  I'm sorry about Muenster though Les.  :(

Absolutely nothing exciting going on for me today.  I couldn't seem to turn my brain off and fall asleep last night so I'm a little tired today.  I did discover though that about 1/2 hour of James Taylor does the trick to relax me.

I ran a half marathon in the spring and never ran more than 5 miles at a time before that.  Pretty sure that is not what you are supposed to do but it went ok.

Jenny - love the dress. It is super cute.

I went to the office at my old job today which was kinda weird.
