  There's a public transportation option on Google Maps, so plug in your origin/destination and hit the little train button (it's up top next to the little walking man and the car).
  
  Or just look at an NYC subway map and see what stop is closest to where you want to go.

  check out the mta website   www.mta.info there is a trip planner on the right side of the home page that may be able to help you.

  definitely try the trip planner on mta.info  I just tried it and it gives you a few different itineraries for where you want to go.

   But sometimes they have service changes so then you might want to double check with MTA to make sure your train is running on your planned route.
