Snarky Brides

Help me procrastinate.

I should be packing.  I'm knotting.  But I'm running out of new stuff to look at, so let's talk about random things.

I'm irritated because I swear we had cornstarch, and we don't, and now I don't know how I'm going to thicken the beef stew.  Fucker.

  • Hmmmm...interesting idea.  I have some.  It's not a tomato-ey stew at all, but I might give that a try and see what happens!  Could be interesting.

I hope it helps and doesn't ruin your stew!  I can't think of a non-flour alternative though.

Like, chunks of potato absorbing liquid, or like pureed potato? That's probably a really stupid question.  I usually have chunks of potato in it and I definitely still need to thicken.  I think I'll probably just beg H to go to the store.  I don't really want to.

  • Pssst, you guys are supposed to be randomly chatting too.  It's not all about me.  Not this time, anyway.

  • And also to be clear, Nebb, I did mean that my question was stupid, not yours.

  • I'm putting off studying sociology.  I might be applying to the university next semester instead of the cc, and I'm kind of freaked out about it.

I'm about to walk out the door for my gig tonight - I'm in the pit orchestra for a local production of "Into the Woods".  Good times.

  • I'm at my parent's house, so I get to sit on the couch and pretend to study while others make dinner.  I might ask for a snack in a minute.

  • Now I'm watching hgtv and sometimes these couples blow my mind. They usually want everything top of the line and a huge house in a city for close to nothing.

I'm here, eating kolaches, I think that's what they are called. They are filled pastry things that look like rolls, and can have all kinds of things in them. The one I have now is sausage and egg, an it's delicious.

Other than that, I'm trying to kick my allergies before I go back to work tomorrow. I have to open all week because my boss is out of town, so I'm in charge all week.

  • We got back recently from running errands. I spent way too much at Ulta, but oh well. Dot is a bad influence.

I need to start dinner soon. I'm attempting a making it up as I go along chicken and artichoke pasta.

J, you can thicken it using egg yolk.  You have to temper it first (if you haven't already tried something else)

edit:  if you happen to have xanthum gum on hand, that works too

Evening!  I got my tomatoes in the ground today along with my eggplant, strawberries,  and pickle bush plants.  My lattice is up for planting my other vine plants tomorrow and hopefully I'll get everything else in the ground too.
  • Egg yolk?  Who knew!  I'll have to remember that.  I got H on the phone before he left the other house and he's going because he's awesome :)

  • ohhello. I just got home. H, my sister, and I went to watch my brother's double header... in WI.  It was two hours each way and he played a total of 4 innings. I am none too happy.

And, I drove home and both of them fell asleep in the car, and now I'm crabby that I didn't get a car nap.

In other news, we're painting the nursery tomorrow! and when we got home, the crib I ordered (on Thursday night!) was sitting by the front door. holy crapola.
  • I'm here for a bit as well. H went to get us Famous Daves. If I call it in, he will go get it. I HATE calling it in, but way better than going to get it.

I was pretty productive which is nice, but now I am beat!! Watching HGTV as well.

It actually works really well.  You end up with a silky, rich sauce.  I've been using it for my GF mushroom sauce
  • Hmmm, well I'll feel bad if I make H go to the store and don't use the cornstarch, but I think I will try that next time, because I'm totally intrigued.

I think I might make cookies.  That's how procrastinate-y I feel.  I hate to bake.

  • Hey- I'm here, lounging around today.

I've never thickened my beef stew, J... I just let the potato chunks do their thing.  However, I use red potatoes, which I find to be more useful for the thickening purpose than russet.

I'm also experimenting right now with making my own sugar free bbq sauce to go with the pulled pork tonight.  I hope it doesn't suck.
  • Potatoes are fascinating little creatures.  I had no idea they would help thicken stuff.  But I always use Russet (at least in my stew).

I would like the recipe for your BBQ sauce if it turns out, Chirp!

  • Steph- I've been researching cribs forever but can't pull the trigger. Where did your order yours?
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • Sure thing.  Right now, I'm enjoying the way it smells (which is akin to Sweet Baby Rays thankfully).

Hey Steph- do you know anything about the Bloomington area?
  • I need to pack too, and clean and make supper. I don't feel like doing any of it and will likely leave it all for tomorrow and spend the entire day rushing around. Except for supper. I should probably eat tonight.

  • Sweet Baby Ray's used to be my favorite.  Now my favorite belongs to a kick ass local BBQ joint, which luckily sells their sauce in jars, and unluckily has gluten in it.  FUCKERS.

At least SBR's is GF, it's just so different than the one I started loving that it's hard to go back to it.

  • Chirp- a little! MOA is there ;) (and IKEA!)  I have a few friends that live in the southern 'burbs though... what do you want to know?

Hike, I'm cheap. So we went with the Graco Lauren. We found it on Amazon with free shipping (we have Prime), so we finally bought it. It was only $130! and no tax since it was Amazon. woohoo.
