August 2012 Weddings

Invites & stamps... oops! :(

I am so annoyed with myself right now. We are working with a small budget and I just now realized a stupid money-wasting mistake that I made.

We're inviting 120 guests to our wedding. The website I ordered wedding invites (rsvp & thank you's) off of you have to order in increments of 100 or 150...so I chose the 150 "obviously". Well... not too obvious considering majority of my guests are couples/families that live together. Just looked over stuff and I only needed 80 or less of everything! I even over ordered on the thank you's cause I knew I would need them for the bridal shower... so I even have way too many of those. If that wasn't bad enough... I have already stamped them all :(

I don't know how I didn't consider this. Well there's a good $100 down the drain (at least)

  • I'm sorry. That's annoying.

I'm sorry that's annoying. But can you use the thank yous for other things like sending them to vendors after the fact for a thank you note? Perhpas you will not have over on the thank you notes because you will use them for bridal shower, wedding, vendors, etc.

Also- You can at least frame an invite and one for your parents nad inlaws to use some of the extras.
I know its a lot of extras, but think of ways to use anything you can!

Thanks for the advice/support. I even went as far as putting labels of our return address on the RSVP so those are pretty much shot. Luckily I did use forever stamps so I'm saving the "thank you" enveloped to be used on anything small I mail in the future. The wedding envelopes match my wedding stuff so I'm not so sure I would use those again. I so badly want to cut the stamps off the envelopes and tape them onto new one's LOL I hate wasting stuff and even more hate that the money could have been used on things we're skimping on- like decor. grrr

  • Oh no!!  I think you might be able to cut the stamps and reuse them :)
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • Not only should you be able to reuse the stamps, but it's good to have a few extra invites just in case some guests need to decline.  This way you have extras to send out to alternative guests.

  • My Mom has done it lol, she got a letter with a stamp that hadn't been marked by the post office, cut it off and taped it to another envelope lol!

  • LOL Saraschilling88, that's hilarious! I don't think this would look nice enough to send on wedding invites, but can atleast keep them and do it for bills and such things in the future.

  • I hope you feel better in that you are NOT the only one who has done this: Ordered waaay too many save-the dates. On the upside, i will have refrigerator magnets for decades to come ;)

</div><div>haha thanks!! I didn't order STD's in order to save money... seems it would have actually SAVED me money because I would have realized my mistake then and not repeated it for invites, rsvp's, and thank you's.... darn!!

I agree. I think you can cut the stamp and use it for other stuffOr you can send out bills in those wedding envelopes etc. They won't care why they are getting a fancy envelope with their check haha.

I'd worry about using those up first, since postage seems to be increasing frequently and you don't have to worry with the forever stampes.

  • i2012do... I'm confused about your last statement. Worry about using what up first? The invites? Everything has forever stamps on them.

  • I think she meant the wedding envelopes with stamps on them :)

  • Okay now I'm just plain panicking! I used forever stamps on the wedding invite's envelopes too. They are really light (no inserts.. just the invite, rsvp, and rsvp envelopes) so I thought this was OK from what I've read on the boards??

sorry! I didn't realize you had forever stamps on the invites too!! I didn't meant ot freak you out. I thought you had used different postage on those!! That's just beause out invites cost 80 cents to send.

You will be fine with forever stamps on your invites. Our STD was a 5x7 with a save the date and accomodations card, and it sent out fine.

  • Haha no problem...misunderstandings happen. I am unfamiliar with sending anything outside of a "regular" sized envelope and had only heard that it goes by weight. I was starting to think I was wrong and it actually went by the size of the envelope used or something. Thanks for your quick reply before I REALLY started panicking! lol

  • Perhaps you can do something with your extra invites and incorporate them onto each guest table at the reception somehow?  We're printing different trivia cards about us for each table - perhaps you could print trivia on the backs of the invites for guests to skim over?  Or, could you use the invite as part of each centerpiece somehow?

  • Girl, you better send your bills in pretty little wedding envelopes and not waste those stamps! Haha!

Sorry, I can find humor any where....

You win some you lose some.

Watch another part of your budget come in way lower than you thought. It will all work out.
  • I sincerely hope this makes you feel better... I ordered save the dates... twice, two sets of 100 save the dates, second set because the first set wasn't everything I ever wanted... ANYWAY, we ended up changing the date after both sets of STD's were ordered and we never used either of them.... i gave some out to my friends for the photo usage... but I hope that makes you feel much better :)
