Anyone use Tweedia?

I found the flower Tweedia on The Knot and really would like to use it in my wedding bouqet/bouts as an accent. I've never heard of it prior to TK and I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about this flower - is it widely available? My florist acted like he wasn't sure what it was, so is it uncommon? Was it terribly expensive?

Thanks for any insight you can give!

I have been keeping my eye open for it to be available on my local wholesaler's website, but haven't seen it.  (They'd probably order it, but I've never asked...)

If you're looking for alternatives, you might want to try apaganthis or cornflower:

I know these have wide availabiity (at least in my area), and aren't too expensive ($.75-$1.50 per stem)

Tweedia isn't really expensive, but it is a bit of a tempermental flower. It produces a latex like substance when cut, so you have to cauterize (burn closed) the stems after cutting. The blossoms themselves are delicate, and the images you have seen are probably those where the flower is treated like a stephanotis-- single blossoms instead of a big stem of Tweedia. They are lovely, but just keep in mind that they don't always cooperate. Typically they are available mid-spring to mid-fall. HTH

use lt blue delphinium if it the color of the twedia that you like. Twedia is a VERY tempermental  flower and neve should be used in corsage or bout work.

It's not a very common flower. When I was a florist, it wasn't something that we could be like, I'll order some tweedia!
And it doesn't do well without water for a long time like roses, carnations or callas. I agree with the PP, delphinium come in lot of shades of blue and are a lot more hardy.

Thanks for the insight. We were originally going to go with delphinium, but I was still curious about other blue flower options since there so few.
