Crazy Color idea?

So when my fiance and I discussed our wedding colors, he comes out with all these ideas and was so enthusiastic about them, I didn't want to tell him it may be weird. His plans are he wants everything to be black and white - no accent color - and to have the traditional things swapped: Bride in black and Groom in white. While I'm not totally dismissing the idea, I've had quite a hard time finding dresses that show this. I've searched for different colored dressed on various websites, but the only thing thats come close are gowns with a colored sash. Any ideas, ladies??

This reminds me of a say yes to the dress episode where an Indian bride was looking for a red dress. I would probably call a few bridal shops and see if any of the designers they carry offer different color fabric/ dying of fabric. I'd also check out some evening formal gowns. If none of those work I would maybe try and find a designer to custom design a black dress for you assuming you can find one to stay in your budget. That's all I can think of... Good Luck!!

Black and white weddings are classic and beautiful I think (although sorry, I'm not crazy about the black dress/white groom).  I do think a white dress with black accents is beautiful--maybe this could be a compromise?

I agree with stephie. If you wanted to be in all white for the ceremony, you could also add some accents for the reception; that's what I'm doing!

Or to take it a step further, you could change into a black cocktail dress for the reception and still wear a white ceremony dress.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I realize its a bit bizarre, but I'm open to the idea as long as I can compromise a little. Both of our favorite colors are purple so maybe I can try to squeeze that in there somewhere. Just straight black and white everywhere would make my head hurt. :)

If you google "black and white wedding" inspiration boards will come up so you can get a feel for what it would look like.  You can also google "purple wedding", "black and purple wedding," etc.  Purple is a very popular color right now and would be a nice accent.

Look at Sarah Jessica Parker's wedding. I believe she wore a black dress on her wedding day.  I do think I read or heard her say in an interview that she regretted wearing a black dress though so that is something to consider.

Ours was black and white with a bit of silver and gold thrown in random places but I do understand that is not strictly black and white and I don't remember my head hurting :)

My taste is not a black wedding dress, but I was browsing the Maggie Sottero wedding gown site and in the Maggie's Brides section there was a self-proclaimed "off-beat" bride who wore a black dress at her wedding.  So, Maggie Sottero at least has a dress she will make in black.  I also love the Sopia Tolli Lacey dress which has a lot ob black applique work on it (if you decide to compromise and not go all black).  I think it is gret that your FI is offering up suggestions and is excited about them.

You still want to say "bride" not funeral, considering thinking about veil and train. But you can add lots of black accents and it could be really pretty!

I went to a wedding last year where the bride wore black.  It was quite the shocker, but they also had their wedding the day before halloween and it was black, white, and purple complete with spider webs.

I'm not sure who the designer was, but it was definitely all black.

ETA:  Black isn't me either, but I think this is nice:

A black dress is not really my cup of tea but then again, I'm big on tradition. I know that it is a wedding for both of you, but it is your dress. People are not going to remember his tux but they will remember your dress. If if is something you want and really love then go for it, but do not give up something that you really want just because he likes another idea better. My SIL wore a white dress with a black sash and a lot of pretty black lace detail work and it was gorgeous. It was all th edge and fun that she wanted but she still looked like a bride.

Are YOU SURE that this is what you want? Doesn't seem like it from your original post.

My friend's wedding was black and white - very elegant. The plan was for her to change into a black cocktail dress for the reception but she lost weight so it didn't fit.

Regardless, whatever you decide upon, be certain that you absolutely love it.  You don't want to be bummed at seeing similarly priced weddings with elements that you love more than your own. You may regret it and resent whomever talked you into it.

I think if you were set on doing something like this, you should do as StephieHall suggests-- black and white dress for ceremony, then maybe switch to black cocktail dress (you can get cute ones at David's Bridal on clearance right now).

If you've seen the Hangover--that is a gorgeous example of a black and white wedding where the bride wore a beautiful white dress with a black sash.  Sooo elegant--I drool whenever I see it!

We are kind of an odd couple as it is and we plan on having the wedding on Halloween day, so I'm hoping that the guests understand. As for the veil, I love the ones that are more of a hairpiece like this one:

So I don't think it'll be too "funeral" looking. I plan on just having fun with the wedding since its meant to be a happy time for everyone. Its not only my wedding; I must consider what he wants as well.

I agree to consider him as well, that's great that he's so excited! Make sure a black wedding dress is something YOU want too though, and if it is, then don't worry what other people think about it. YOU're wearing it, not them. And black and white weddings are done a lot and always look very classy.

Like everyone else said, black sounds like a funeral. But what if everything were black and white, and you were red? You'd stand out beautifully. You have to tell him that you want to be the center of his world, and the centerpiece of the wedding, so you get what you want :)

Red is a really good color to go with black and white, and there are red wedding dresses available (one of my bridesmaids sent me a link to: redhotbrides.com when I told her I was engaged - she was joking because I'm very traditional, but there were some beautiful red dresses).

I think over the course of your three-year engagement your ideas about your wedding are going to change drastically.  That is not to say that you will not continue to want a black wedding dress -- that's fine.  I would just like to strongly advise against setting your heart on something like that today, three years away from your wedding.  And Angela is right -- even though you need to consider your FI's feelings, it is still YOUR dress.  If you want a white dress, wear it.

PS: Major applause to you and your FI for making sure you finish college before you get married!

Edit: One of the regulars here got married October 30 last year and invited her guests to come in costume.  Here are some pics from her photographer's blog: http://www.lynnmichelle.com/blog/weddings/anna-courts-the-reception/

<div>That was a great example of a quirky wedding that was fun for everybody, but still looked like a special occasion. You're absolutely right - I have plenty of time to figure all the details out and adjust my ideas. I think that's one of the funnest parts! Everyone's ideas here have been SO helpful! :)</div>
