Wedding Woes

On the advice of WW, I bought those 'spiral bobby pin thingies' to put in a bun

and you're all right, they are magical.

Now I need to buy like 8 more for when my cat steals the 2 that I got.

What is the texture of your hair like?   I have thick hair, but it's very fine - so clips, barrettes, bobby pins, etc. don't stay in my hair, they slide right out.
Anyone know if these spiral things will work in fine hair?

I have very very fine, very very thin, stick straight hair.  (seriously, Buffy's baby hair = my hair, just shorter and lighter); so I'm well aware of the 'slides right through' issue--these seem to stick.  They hold for a few hours w/o any adjustment and are easy to remove and put back in

If I had less (read, shorter) hair, I'm not sure I'd have enough hair to 'grab', so they might not work so well.  And I don't think only 1 would hold up my hair...but it was like $5 for a 2-pack at wal-mart, so I figured it was worth the try.

I bought them for DD and DDIL for stocking stuffers for Christmas but haven't seen them used, My hair is pretty short right now but how exactly do you use them. I bet if I searched Youtube I'd find a video.  DD wanted to learn to knit, I hadn't knitted in probalby 30 years but there are great Youtbue videos, I used those to learn again and then taught her.

You roll your hair up in a bun, then you 'corkscrew' them in--like sticking in a hair stick or a bobby pin except you spiral it in.
Then you repeat, from the other side, with the 2nd one.
Because they 'spin' in, they catch way more hair than a normal hair stick.

I'm either an idiot or these don't work in my hair.  I've tried with my hair straightened and it's natural wavy state.  Maybe I expect too much too.

Yay!  Another convert.  These things really are wonderful.  I have thick, coarse hair and it laughs at regular bobby pins.

i find it works best when you work them in closer to your head.  i've also worked them into my hair, and then clamped a hairclip over them and my hair doesn't move at all.

But do they allow for a tight school marm bun, or just loose?  Or both?!

yeah, they do have to be right up against the head, IMO, to be able to catch the hair close to the head.

I find it does 'tight' better than 'loose' (also dirty) but I haven't had much of a chance to play w/ them.
