We decided on the shape and design before we choose color. We were set on a vintage French look. But we're debating these details:
-a pale yellow cake with off-white details (the first one); or
-a pale pink cake with the same color details (the second one, but with ribbon).
Either of these can have or not have ribbon on them.
I'm torn! I need your elegant tastes. Which do you prefer? If you vote you would prefer ribbon, please tell me what color ribbon.
(Excuse my red circle, I drew it to show my baker that's the icing flourishes we wanted on the tiers.)

Even though I had a white on white cake, I love that second one. And I like ribbon on cake, but it's also pretty without it.
I think the design of the second cake in all white would be pretty also. I think it's the design that I really like the most.

[QUOTE]You could have a fondant ribbon, then you wouldn't have to take it off to cut the cake.

I like this idea!
But if you want a vintage french look I would go with the pale yellow with off white details an no ribbon. Old school style french cakes are all about the intracate piping details. I studied pastry under a french pastry chef who has been in the business for over 50 years and that is the style of cakes he does. He ias all about the crazy details in the piping and the white on white. Ribbon is more modern and a although pretty is just a "cheating" way of hiding the small seam/gaps between the cake tiers.
