Would you buy a dress without trying it on?

I am in love with a dress... online.

It is from the Sottero & Midgley collection, ssm5162.

I called every bridal store that carries this line within 6 hours of me... and also the stores within 100 miles of my mom and my sister. No one has this dress as a sample! I am at a loss. But I am terrified to order a dress that I have never tried on... since I've definitely looked at some dresses that I thought were great, but then did not like so much once I tried them on. So I've tried moving on and looking for other dresses... but to no avail.

I think I've read on here before that I might be able to get one of the stores to have it shipped at my expense? No one has offered to do this, but then again, I also haven't asked. So I plan to ask... but what if they refuse? What do I do? Order the dress anyhow and hope I like it? Or keep looking....

I bought my dress on ebay. I suggest going to stores first to see what style you like and what size you are wedding dress wise. See if you can find a store with something similar to that before devoting to that dress. Also check the return policy on the website.

I found a dress that I loved online and started calling stores in the state, and no one had it. However, one store did offer to contact the designer to see if they could "borrow" the dress so that I could try it on. Maybe you could find a store that would do that for you, too?

Is it a new gown? That might be why it's not in stores yet. Contact the designer and see if they're having a trunk show near you any time soon, that's usually when they bring out their new line.

I was able to get a store to "borrow" Maggie's Brielle from the designer (at my shipping expense), but the sample was a size 10 which is like for someone who wears a 6-8. Needless to say all I was able to do was hold it up to myself. I did however try on a very similar Maggie that I was able to get into. The dress has all the features of most gowns I had tried on, so I will be ordering it without ever having ACTUALLY tried it on. My mom is not a fan of the idea, but when you know, you know.

I don't really have any advice; I can just relate. After having been to numerous shops and finding dresses that I like/look good on me really think that Maggie's Claudette or Mirabella would be great, but like you no one near me, my mom, my bro seems to have it.

So I am in the same boat as you. Like pp said, try on dresses as much as you can like it - same shape, same type top, same type train, etc to get a good idea of if it'll work.

My mom is the one pushing me to just order it. haha. The dress has a very similar top to some of the ones I've tried on - and loved! But yeah, you guys are right about how each dress fits differently and will work great on some people, and then, not on others. I just have no idea. It is an older dress, not the new line. Guess I need to talk to some of the sales people.

For those that bought any of Maggies dresses, what is her price range? And I knwo it does vary from store to store, but I just want to get a base line price range.

I know Maggie lets stores borrow the dresses, because one of the ones I liked someone else had borrowed and it just happened to be at the store. It cost the girl who had them borrow it like $30 I believe. DEFINITELY TRY IT ON!! I had so many gowns I loved that were just not right when I put them on, and all the places I went said I had the perfect "bridal figure." (toot toot - that's my horn, lol)

No way! I found a dress online that I fell in love with and had the same problem with finding it to try on. Finally I found one in a store that was about 3 hours away and took the drive to go and try it on. On the hanger I was still in love! Then I put it on and ughhhh I hated it on me! And to think how close I was to ordering it online without trying it on! Yikes!

I think you should look for it online and purchase it. Make sure to check the return policy. if you have any question about it, call them and ask them if you can return it if there is anything you don't like about the dress. But if it is your dream wedding gown DON"T settle.
I ended up buying mine from blowoutbridal.com, and it was great. I was scared to at first but just make sure that you are able to return it if you don't like it, and if it does turn out that it doesn't look good on you. At least you know, you won't be thinking what if

Here's a question - is the online sale final? If not, and you can send it back if you hate it, go for it. I panicked slightly after I ordered my gown because it's a final sale, and I never ACTUALLY had the gown on my body (sample was 6 - I'm a16). The saleslady put me in a dress with a similar silhouette then had me put my arms through the straps of my dress and held it to my body to get an idea of what it would look like. Yes, this makes me nervous, but it's the only dress I found that I really liked so I went with it and am trusting the experienced salesperson and seamstress. So if you can try on a similar dress and/or see dresses with similar fabric/beading/train, that might help.

i bought my dress without ever trying it on. BUT, i had tried on similar silhouettes and knew that the style of the dress was exactly what i wanted and what i liked best on me. so my advice would be to try on dresses with similar silhouettes and details to the dress you like, and if you are still in love with the dress and are fine with the way that style looks on you, go for it. since i had tried similar things on, i was 100% good with my decision and got a fabulous deal online, and i absolutely love my dress.
