Need an easier way to find vendors! Please Help!!

My fiance and I are getting married in two years. The date is 8/30/2014. We are getting married in upstate ny cause all his family is there and all my family is new jersey. Problem is we live in Los Angeles,CA and I can't really afford to fly pack in forth to look at vendors. So my question is there a book or guide that has most vendors with information in it? I know i can also look at the different wedding websites but I really dont want to look at tons of websites.Rather just have all my info in one spot. I went to a bridal show in LA and they gave me a book with tons of vendors in it so I'm just wondering if upstate ny has one too??

    Weddingwire's vendor lists are pretty thorough (as in, they include almost all of the vendors in the area, at least in my area).  That said, take the ratings with a  grain of salt, because I know they have a problem with negative reviews sometimes getting deleted.

    I'm doing a cross-country wedding (as is a friend in my graduate program).  Keep in mind The Knot has some but definitely not all vendors in their regional sites.  I'll give you my solution and hers:

    Mine: get someone I trust (in this case, my mom) to do some of the in-person meetings and include yourself via skype if at all possible.  I skyped to see my wedding location, and it worked out pretty well.  I have been asking EVERYONE I know who's gotten married in the area for their vendors, reviews, photos, etc.  This allows you to get a narrow pool of vendors with honest feedback from someone you know.

    Hers: hire a wedding planner.  There is a huge disparity on their prices, but she is significantly less stressed about it knowing a professional is helping to search for great vendors in your style and price range.

    Hi there. Congratulations on your engagement! Where in NY ae you thiking of getting married? I used to live in Ithaca (about 4 hours from the CIty) and about an hour from Syracuse. I could help you out with vendors as I used to do photography up there too.
