How challenging is this?

Anyone know how to make a cake like this? is it all butter cream? I love the soft look of the frosting, and I hateeeeeee fondant...

any tips??

The five-tiered buttercream cake with piping details and light pink sugar flowers rested on a tray lined with roses. It was made up of three flavors: chocolate buttercream, tres leches and amaretto with raspberry filling.

Re: How challenging is this?

  • Not sure if you are asking about how challenging it is because you personally want to re-create it yourself, or you are going to a pro cake bakery.

I also don't like fondant. Our cake had butter cream frosting, and a good bakery can make it as smooth as fondant. The decorations on that cake are probably made with"Royal icing", which is a decorative icing that hardens quickly, has meringue powder or cream of tartar in it. It's edible.
  • To make as in DIY, looks pretty challenging. That is a 5 tier cake and each teir is probably 2 cakes.  If you're a baker then it should be fairly easy to recreate but the decorations might be tricky.  I know for me, I would not even attempt this cake and I love to bake.

  • If you are attempting to recreate it yourself...unless you are a professional baker with many years of experience the piping work alone would be extrememly difficult and challenging.

But to actually bake, ice and stack the five tiers...watch a few videos on youtube about the hardware needed (dowels, etc) in stacking and it should still be a bit of a challenge but no where near that piping work.
