Black BM dresses for a June Wedding?

Hi,

I'm getting married on June 25th of this year, we just booked our venue last week. (yes I know that this is very last minute, but we were going to elope at first. Then when we decided to have a reception and started looking at venues, a gorgeous one that we never would have been able to afford to book a year in advance had a cancellation and offered us a huge discount)

Anyway because it's such short notice I was going to have the bridesmaids wear simple black dresses that they can wear again with a lavender wrap and/or sash. I told my mom about this idea and she freaked out and said that black is not suitable for a June wedding and that I should try to find an inexpensive lavender dress that they will all like.

Any opinions on this? Is it really so wrong to wear black in June?

  • I was once in June wedding with a black BM dress.  It looked great.  It's a good color for any season.  If you wanted to make the dresses look more "summery" you could have them wear bright sashes and bouquets with bright flowers.

</div><div>Your Mom is freakin' out over nothing. As long as the dresses are summery, it should be lovely and the girls will probably really appreciate being able to pick a black dress that they can wear again. One of the regulars on this board did this same thing, except she had black dresses with a light blue sash. It was really cute and looked very summery.

  • I had black bm dresses in Sept. and my girls loved them. No one thought they were too dreary and they matched everything.

  • I wore a black BM tea-length dress in an August wedding... not a big deal in my opinion! I know some people (like your mom) just hate the thought of black dresses for BM's, but everyone has an opinion.  This is YOUR wedding! If you like it, do it!
  • I think if thats what you want, do it!
I think lavender and black would be so pretty! All lavender might look a little easter-ish.

  • I'm doing black BM dresses this June too!!  We got them at White House Black Market and everyone LOVES them!!  To my dismay one already wore hers to a wedding as a guest...now that I know the dress is fine, I'm glad to know how much they like them!!

I think it's elegant and classy!!
  • Hey, it's also about what makes the BMs comfy.  Glad things worked!
