People who have had c-sections

How long after you came home did you wait to shower? Take a bath?

I took a shower on day 3 at the hospital.

I don't remember when I first took a bath.  I felt great after a week, so physically, I could have taken one, but I didn't have much time to myself, what with having a baby attached to my boob most of the day.

Yeah. I showered in the hospital. Day 2, I think - Seems like I had to wait for them to take the epidural out (which they leave in for a bit for post-op pain management).

It was pretty awesome.  I used the old-person handicapped shower seat (actually necessary post-op) and just let all of the gunk wash off.  I wish I had one in my shower.

And now I want to know why you're asking.  Is hmo refusing to shower? :)

I took a shower at the hospital.  It was either the c/s or the appi, but one of them I had to saran wrap the incision so the steristrips wouldn't get wet.  I am not a bath person much so I can't answer that.

Day 3 at the hospital?  DG still had an epi?  I don't recall any of this sort of thing.  6let was born Thursday night and Saturday morning I was showered dressed and ready to go by 9 am.  I wanted the eff out of there.

I could get mine wet.  I just couldn't really *wash* it (until my doctor ok-ed it).  No rubbing, scrubbing, etc.  Just let the soapy water run over it.

hmo is asking how long I waited, after my surgery (appendectomy) to shower. I was told I could the next morning, but I was too weak. I took one when I got home. I told her as much, but my incisions were WAY different than a c-section incision.

But, it seems as if you can take one as soon as you feel up to it, right? I suggested a bath because not being able to stand for that long is what really knocked me out. But again, I don't know if a bath is OK with a c-section incision.

hmo wants to bathe. She says she feels like a hoarder.

I went in to the hospital on Saturday, had the c/s on Sunday morning, and checked out on Wednesday.  I had the option to leave on Tuesday, but I wasn't feeling completely up to it yet, so I stayed another day.

The open appe and c/s incision were quite similar for wound care.

The up and down out of a tub might be hard on the incision.  The handicap shower would probably be good, or at the very least the nurses should be able to scrub her down.

I was told I could take a shower while I was in the hospital (overnight) after the appendectomy. I figure that procedure was NOTHING like a c-section, which is why I asked.

Frankly, I felt better after my surgery than I did before. I was sick with fever and vomitting for 5 days before they took that sucker out. I went four days without shower and was sweating like a maniac. That was gross. Luckily, I showered the day before my appendectomy, so I wasn't completely gross when they worked on me.

I showered in the hospital the day they took the cath out. They wanted me moving around right away, too.

It was the best shower of my life.

ETA: I went in on a Tuesday? I think? maybe Wednesday. Had the kid the next morning. Had the cath out day after that, and stayed till Sunday. I wanted out by Friday, but they wouldn't let me. Probably because they weren't done trying to make me take WIC and cash assistance and whatever-all-else I didn't need.

As a non-c section person, I was in the shower just an hour or so after DD was all set up.

Our patients can shower day 2, once the doctors take the pressure dressing off the incision. Just letting the water run over the incision of course, not that I think you'd want to scrub staples.

Ugh. i didn't have staples.  Internal stitches & steristrips.

Dex was born on Saturday at noon.  We stayed 4 nights, so we left on Wednesday at about noon.

Des was born on a Tuesday morning. Again, 4 nights, and we came home on Saturday.

I was in zero rush to get home either time.

and NO WAY would I have been up for a bath.  They probably wouldn't have been too keen on having my incision soaking in the dirty bath water with me, either.  Definitely the handicapped shower is the way to go.  And DH had to help me go in, help me undress, help me sit down, keep the IV out of the way, etc.  I did manage to bathe myself.

I was doing much much better by the time we got home - showering with minimial assistance.
