Wearing your engagement ring

So does everyone wear their ring 24/7? To bed, in the shower, washing dishes, etc? I worry that I'll ruin it or something. It's a good quality ring, and I'd love to wear it all the time but it scares me. And it is a bit loose, even after getting it sized. I think I like that better than my finger looking all sausage like. :).

Re: Wearing your engagement ring

  • I pretty much wear mine 24/7, but I take it off when I take a shower and when I put it in the cleaning solution every few days for a couple of hours. I'm a stickler for keeping it sparkly!

But whenever it's off, I feel so naked!

I wear to bed , and most of the day - I still take it off to shower - and if I am outside doing yardwork or inside doing dishes or heavy cleaning - but i wash my hands with it on - i just don't want grease or something from doing the dishes to get on it and don't want it gunked up with shave gel or shampoo in the shower - nor do i want it tangled in my hair

  • The only times I take it off is when I work out (I do kettlebells and I am affraid it will smack the ring) I also take it off when I shower (when I wash hair... not if it is just a body washing shower) Other than that it is always on.
  • I wear my rings almost all the time. I take them off in the shower because our drain is big enough that it could fall down there. I also take it off when I'm sleeping because I don't want to accidentally scratch myself with them while sleeping. Otherwise, they're always on.

  • I used to take mine off for working out, work (I'm a nurse so I'm afraid of popping a glove), cleaning, showering, sleeping.  Pretty much anything that I had to use my hands for.  Now I only really take it off for work and cleaning.  I wear gloves when I work out now so that's not a big deal.  I just don't think I was used to my e-ring nor was I comfortable wearing it 24/7.  Having it insured gives you a little more peace of mind too.

  • I take mine off for showering and swimming and working out, and when I sleep- I really don't like having rings on when I sleep.  I've worn rings (not my e-ring, but other ones) for about a decade taking them off like this, and I've never lost one.
  • DH and I both wear our rings when we are out of the house.  As soon as we come home though, they go in the jewelry box

  • Engagement rings are made to be worn!!!  Most people wear their enagement rings as part of their daily jewlery, and only remove if their job or a chore might harm it in some manner.

Wearing your ring in the shower or to bed is just fine, assuming it is fitted.
If the ring is fitted properly, you should have no worries about losing it off your finger. Also, if the prongs are tight and stones set correctly, you should not have to fear losing your diamond(s) from the ring.

IMG Jewelers suggests periodically having your ring checked by a jeweler to confirm that your diamond is set firmly in the prongs. If you begin to notice alot of your clothing being snagged by a prong, please take it in to be checked so that your diamond stays secure.

    Happy Wedding Planning!

  • I wear mine all the time except for showering and cleaning.  I don't think I'll wear it to the beach either.  If it's not on my finger, it's in the same spot so I'll always know where it is.
  • I take mine off when I lift weights but not when doing cardio. We have really hard water so I take my ring off when I wash my hands, do dishes, and get a shower. I just got it redipped too so I am trying my hardest to keep it as sparkly as possible!

  • I only wear mine when I'm out of the house. As soon as I get back home, I take it off.

  • We wear ours outside.  We rarely have them on inside our house.

  • I do not sleep, shower, clean or do dishes with my ring. I also probably will not wear to the beach, my ring is also a little loose and I'm afraid I'd lose it.
  • I only take mine off when working out, doing dishes, showering, and sleeping. I have mastered washing my hands with it on (without fear of it slipping off). I have it sized correctly but my fingers swell when it's hot outside or when I'm working out. Most other times it fits loose but doesn't slip past my knuckle.

I just got it last month so I am still getting used to wearing it. It's too imporant to me and my fiance for me not to wear it... He likes seeing it and feeling it on my finger, and so do I.

Definitely get it insured and just take your time getting used to it.

  • I always wear my ring.  In the shower, working out, swimming, etc, it's on.  I do take it off if I'm lifting at the gym because my gloves don't fit with it on.

The jewelry store where we purchased it is very convenient, so I usually get it cleaned at least once a month.  We also have the lifetime warranty for stones/maintenence as well as insured for loss so that's why I'm not concerned with being 'rough' on my ring.

  • Currently, I wear it unless I'm cleaning something - self, dog, dishes, hands.  I immediately bought a pretty crystal ringholder - $20 on Amazon - to leave in the bathroom for it to live if not on me.  When I have a wedding band, I'll wear that to bed & gym instead of the whole set.

I wear mine for everything and I never take it off. I have a right-hand vintage ring that I've worn pretty much without taking it off for over 6 years and it still looks amazing so I'm not concerned with damaging my engagement ring.
  • a good friend of mine advised me to take it off for sleep, shower/swimming and hand cleaning... so I've started a routine of wake up, take shower, immediately put ring on, when i'm in the restroom, take it off, but don't let it leave my sight!!!, put my ring box next to my bed before sleep, take it off and put it in the box, repeat Wink
  • I wear mine except to bed and in the shower. Though, the first week I did wear it to bed. :)

  • When DH was looking for rings ideas, I deliberately told him "I want a ring I can wear all the time and not 'be in the way'", lol. He came through, because I only need to take my ring off for showering or working with cleaning chemicals/messy art supplies.

*I felt sorry for my husband before I met him. Take a number.*

  • I don't wear it swimming or when I clean. The chemicals are not good for any metals.

  • I wear my ring 24/7.

It was my grandmother's engagement ring and she actually looked at me like I was insane when I took it off once to wash some dishes.

"Joy, that ring was never off my finger.  Not cleaning, not sleeping, not showering, not stuffing the Thanksgiving turkey.  Don't baby it."

It's still beautiful 75 years later.
  • I wear mine to bed except I'm learning that in the summer it's not the best idea.  My fingers swell at night sometimes and it's hard to get off in the mornings.  I don't wear it in the shower or when washing dishes though.  Any other time?  It's on my finger.  I love it so much and feel weird without it on.

  • I wear mine 24/7.
I take it off to clean it, and sometimes I take it off when handling raw meat. I'm paranoid abot spreading "meat germs" and I'm afraid that not matter how long I wash my hands with my ring on the germs will still be in the little details of my ring, lol.

I sleep, eat, play, shower, work out, and do just about everything with my ring on. Even washing the dog.
  • I pretty much wear my ring 24/7. I only take it off when I put lotion on (don't want it to get all gunky) and when I clean with bleach and 409. I will most definitely take if off when I swim too - don't want it slipping off! Other than that it's on my finger, including when I workout.

<div>That is seriously so adorable. Mine stabs me in the face when I sleep with it on though. I don't sleep or shower with it on---just like any other jewelry (earrings too). </div>
  • We went to a mini bridal thing for the screening of the 5 Year Engagement and they gave away free Vera Bradley mini jewelry boxes, so that's where mine lives when it's not on me!  I take it off for dishes, showering, and swimming.  Water makes me (ring) nervous!

  • I agree with Joy2611's Grandmother.  My Aunty and Ba-Chan (grandmother) always told me exactly the same thing.

My ring is an heirloom piece too--so I know it can stand the test of time--its my Fiance's Great-Grandmother's Garnet ring (my birthstone) and it never ever ever leaves my finger!

And as was said earlier, I'd feel naked w/o it!

  • I rarely take my ring off. I leave it on for everything. I also am an agriculture teacher so I leave it on when I'm working in my greenhouse and with animals, etc.
