Rosie, I think Ann Taylor sizes are a little larger than places like BR, but about the same as at the Gap. AT pants never fit me because they tend to be large in the waist and tight in the legs (I have huge thighs), but I can always buy small sizes in their dresses. Their tops run a little large, but generally true to size I think.

I find the sizes to be similar to WHBM, maybe a half size smaller. The big thing is that they have 4 or 5 different cuts for pants, so you sort of need to know which one works best for you.

On their shirts and sweaters, the arms are a smidge small, IMO. As in, I have biceps, and although a medium fits everything else, I need a large in some shirts to accomodate the arms.

Kate, thanks! I really don't wear pants much. I have a small waist and big thighs, so absolutely nothing fits me correctly. I have 2-3 pairs of work pants from the Gap outlet, but I mostly wear skirts and dresses. I could live in v-neck wrap dresses if it wasn't so cold in the winter!

This annoys the crap out of me too.

You should definitely stock up on sweaters. The weather here is so unpredictable I practically live in cardigans. And I just put the last of my heavy sweaters away this week. I feel really weird saying that since it was 96 degrees yesterday, but that's Boston for you.

CS, what other places? In a cardigan, I'd order a medium for me for sure. It's shirts that aren't knit and thus the fabric isn't forgiving at all that I have issues with atL.

Opal, I'm dreading winter. And trying to not think about it. Here's what I don't get, though - it's easy to find a coat & scarf and gloves to keep your top half warm. What about your legs? I don't get it - they get cold too. /weird winter clothing rant

CS, which cardigan? I've tried on pretty much all the ones they have now and some of them run true-to-size but some of them run HUGE. Like I had to try an XS in one of them.

Yeah, you'll see plenty of people walking around in ankle-length down coats when it gets really bad. I haven't gone quite that far yet. I have some pretty unsexy waterproof pants for the snow, and beyond that, I just deal with it. It does suck though. I wind up changing up my commute in the winter so I can stay out of the wind longer :-/

My commute's not going to be too bad, I don't think - about 50 feet outside, plus waiting at the T station. But I can't see wearing my ski pants being a good choice.

That's lucky. Any way I slice it, I have quite a hike. At least hiking in snow is a good workout :D

Brie, hotchilly's and I don't get along. I've got a bunch of stuff from skiing, but once you're in the office, it's a little much generally. It just baffles me that in the course of thousands of years, we never came up with "a coat for legs" that isn't really ugly, stupid, etc.

Ooh, I tried that one on, and honestly I HATED it. It's really unflattering on, IMO, and runs really big. That was the one I needed the XS in to get it to look half decent. It's just a really boxy shape and the sleeves are an odd length. I was not a fan. If you're going to order it, I'd definitely err on the smaller side.

Yeah, I have the deep clay. In person it's definitely not olive--it's kind of a dove gray with a bit of a purple-ish cast to it. It's really pretty.
