  • No idea.

It's FI's busy season shipping soldiers so I think we'll end up pushing it back until closer to the end of August.  I'd really like to get it booked soon though so we won't be able to keep pushing it back.

I'm jealous of all your HMs though!

  • We are goin to Greece!

He is Greek-American and has family there.  We are leaving 3 days after the wedding and are very lucky that we are able to spend 3 weeks there!

We will spend time with the family for those who couldn't come to the states for our wedding, spend some time on Santorini and then we're both history buffs so we have to go see some archaelogical sites.

  • We live in Portland, OR but are getting married in my hometown in CA. We are honeymooning in Monterey, CA. Neither of us has ever spent time there and its an inexpensive but beautiful option!

And lots of hotels there have packages to include fun activities (kayaking, picnics, wine tastings etc)

[QUOTE]We're going to Grand Cayman. FI's dad and stepmom have a timeshare there and are giving us two weeks as our wedding gift. I'm so excited about this trip. FI and I are paying for the wedding ourselves, and definitely would not have been able to afford a honeymoon even remotely as nice as what we're getting. What a blessing! We leave the Monday after our Saturday wedding.

It's the Morritt's Tortuga Club. I've never been to GC, but my cousin and his wife went there for their honeymoon and loved it, so we thought we'd try it too! Plus, I wasn't about to turn down a partially paid for honeymoon.

Any tips you have would be amazing!! What excursions/places should we make sure and see? My FI is really into scuba, and I'm more of a beach bum, but like to do the occasional sightseeing/touristy excursions.

  • We are going to London, Ireland and Scotland. We're so excited we think we are leaving the day after the wedding but no flights have been booked yet. We were going to try and do Ireland and Italy, a week a both, but we decided to just do one and enjoy every minute of it.
  • We're going to Mexico - still can't decide on the resort yet. But we booked our flights - leaving the Monday after our Saturday wedding and staying till Sunday, then the Sunday morning we are flying to Ft. Laurderdale and we are going on the Carnival Freedom for a 6 day cruise. Half of our wedding party is meeting us on the cruise ship.

I warn you this will be long because I LOVE GC.  I'd seriously move there if I could.

First I'll start with the scuba diving... GC is one of the places I think every scuba diver needs to do.  It's beautiful.  Really any dive site out there is great but I'd suggest diving the Kittiwake (if he does wreck dives), aquarium (it's over by 7 Mile Mile Beach on the west side of the island) - the site got it's name from all the fish in the area; you think you are in an aquarium and manta ray pass is a great site to see manta rays.
You both should DEFINITELY go to Sting Ray City.  It's on a sandbar about a mile out in the "cove" and you get to feed, pick up, and even kiss wild stingrays.  They're gentle and LOVE the squid you feed them.  Your FI can also do the 12 foot dive just off the sandbar if he wants (it's a cool site but I preferred the sandbar with my friends).
For a relaxing beach Rum Point is great. I seriously felll asleep on that beach in a hammock for hours.  Plus, lots of drinks there contain big surprise, rum.
The capital is fun to explore.  I spent a day shopping and going through the markets that they had between buildings.
Hammerhead bar - in the capital has great drinks.  Definitely do the hammerhead lemonade.  Their food is really good bar food too and you are right on the ocean.  About maybe 20 feet out from that bar is a wreck that you can snorkle too - I forget it's exact name right now.
If you want the quiet beach where you can also snorkel to see some aquatic animals and not deal with many people I highly recommend Cemetary beach.  You can either walk through the cemetary or next to it to get to this beach.  This is by far my favorite beach on the entire island.
The sea turtle farm is fun.  They have sea turtles of all different ages and a few different species.  You can even hold the babies if you want and are careful.  All the turtles that can be released get released after being there for so long.  Next door to this is a place to ride dolphins too.
Definitely try the conch cakes - it reminded me of a mix between crab cakes and calamari the first bite I took of one.  It's good though.  If you like spicy food definitely get jerk sauce on anything you like - hamburgers, whatever.  It's really good.  Often the conch cakes come with jerk mayo but it's not hot and gives the "cakes" extra flavor.  Also, my favorite dessert from there is rum cakes.  The ones from tortuga are amazing.  Plain or with ice cream, you can't go wrong.  I brought back 12 with me and everyone loved them.  The plain and the chocolate ones were my favorite.
