Workout Accountability: Thursday

Happy Thursday!

I overate a bit last night and didn't feel great about it, but at least the scale hasn't gone up (yet.)  I really need to overcome these nighttime munchies that have been around for a few too many evenings now.
My car is finally in the shop, so I'm working from, and stranded at home.  At least it will give me more time after work to make a nice, fresh healthy dinner and get the apartment cleaned.

Today is yoga x.  It's the very last workout day of phase two!

How is everyone?

Re: Workout Accountability: Thursday

  • I did relatively well yesterday with food. Didn't plan out my lunch as well as I thought (was missing an indgredient) and that set me off because I was having to find something worth eatting and having all stuff I need. I was a little "bad" on sweets as I had ice cream and poptarts with FI.

But, I worked out, and ate relatively well.

I stepped on the scale this morning thinking there would be a change and there wasn't. Kinda disappointed (and at this point is usually where I give up) but I understand it takes time.

I'm going back to my Dr today to reject her idea of HCG and ask her to please put me on PHENTERMINE (which she turned down last week when I was there and promoted her in house HCG program) Hopefully she'll give me the perscription and that way I can have help getting started.

Any one of you used Phentermine?!

You before and after shots are all amazing. So much motivation came from that post. Congrats to each and every one of you. Your success helps me believe that I CAN do it and it is not impossible. It's just going to take lots of work.

Thanks for setting this up. I'd usually run downstairs on a day like today and eat bad foods and because I am committed, I will eat my hard boiled egg and be off to the gym.

    Have a great day everyone!

  • Alright, this is my first time posting to the accountability threads, so I'll do a little catching up! :) Saturday was my first day going to the gym with a bridesmaid of mine, and boy did it feel great. It motivated me to eat Subway for lunch and make fish for dinner! Sunday was more of the same, foodwise. Monday, we had frozen pizza for dinner, but I never eat a ton when we eat pizza. Tuesday is usually my other workout day, but it was my first dress session, working out would have been way more beneficial. Dress searching was terrible, so when I got home I had comfort food. It was really bad.... Last night was okay though, tacos for dinner, mine were filled with veggies! :) Gotta figure out dinner tonight! Good working out today ladies!

  • Lobsters - Good luck with your car! Do you ever try drinking a big glass of ice water when you're hungry at night? I find when I'm hungry at night I'm usually just bored because I'm sitting around watching tv or reading or something. So I try to just sip form a big glass of ice water to keep my hands and mouth occupied. It usually helps.

thebtflbride - Sorry you didn't see any movement but you're right these things take time. Don't give up! Are you weighing yourself daily? I weigh myself every week and sometimes every 2 weeks. My body takes a while to show progress so I know if I get on the scale and don't see anything I will become disappointed. Hang in there girl. I didn't see the scale move for the first 4 weeks I started counting my calories and working out. You will get there.

    lcatterton - Welcome!

This morning I took a break from running and went to spin class. It is one of the last I can go to at my gym  before I move in a few weeks. I tried out my new cycling shoes that I got as a shower gift - coolest shower gift ever btw. I love them! They make the ride so much different. Next Monday I'm meeting with the director of my gym to begin training to be a cycling instuctor. I will probably only teach one class a week but I'm excited!! Nice job everyone!

  • mari - that's an awesome gift!  which ones did you get?

I'm already an ice water fiend, since I've never liked soda or ice tea or anything, so I'm drinking it while munching at this point :)  I think I might just need to up my calories by 50 or 100 a day, and see if that helps.  Thanks, though!

  • Hey all!

It's been, well, forever (it seems) since I last posted on here.  I'm still kind of/sort of figuring out belly issues wise so exercising has been fairly inconsistent.  Overall my diet hasn't been too terrible so I'm extremely happy about that.  I'm trying to cut out as much dairy from my diet as I possibly can.  One of my doctors suggested doing that so we will see how it goes.  Also, I'm under two months until the wedding and I need to tone!  I will still run but I've stopped all training and am doing some easier runs since I pretty much need to maintain what I'm at since I already had my final fitting.  I'm hoping to exercise more consistently so I can tone up and feel a little better about myself overall before the wedding.

I hope you all have been successful!  I might start posting more.  I missed hearing how you all were doing with your goals and whatnot.
  • Lobsters - I'm not sure! lol. I will look when I get home from work and post it tomorrow.

lbarr - you're back! Sorry to hear you're still having tummy issues :( Hope you are doing well otherwise!

  • @mari -- what an awesome gift, I totally agree!  I'm going to go research some shoes for my registry now!  I've heard how helpful they are in spin classes.  Do you have clips too?

Bridal bootcamp was great last night, and day 13 of 30DS did not kill me as much as the last two days of level 2 ... WOOT WOOT!  Eating was good, wasn't hungry much of the day, probably due to the heat, but today is a different story as I sit here snacking already.  Weight class tonight ... and I'm soooo looking forward to it.  Debating on whether to take Saturday as my normal off day or use it as a make up for JM since i slept through Tuesdays workout.  We'll see I guess

    Good luck today ladies!

  • Hi Ibarr!  Welcome back!

Lobsters--Mari had a good idea with the water.  Another idea and it does work somewhat for me, is brushing your teeth.  Can you brush earlier?  The fresh feeling and minty flavor kind of make you not want to eat.

    And Welcome lcat!

Oh, workout yes...I did a trampoline workout last night.  Eating was within calories, but not super healthy for supper.  Otherwise I was happy.  I weighed up today, but I figure its a normal fluctuation.  I measured and was satisfied though.  I have my first fitting today so yay!!

    Good Morning!

Lobsters-- try making a pitcher of water with 2 cut up fuji apples in it and a stick or two of cinnimon! I found it on pinterest! It says detox but I don't care about that it tastes yummy and gives a little variety!

Mari-- Ive heard spinning can take off some killer weight!  Any tips for a newbie?  I have been thinking about it for  awhile but it looks very intimidating when I watched them at my gym (they go so fast and I haven't been on a bike of any sort for years!) lol

lbarr-- stomach issues are the worst!  Sorry to hear you have to go through them but its exciting you had your first fitting and are so close to your wedding! Congrats!

Icat-- welcome! Hope this is as helpful to you as it is to me!

Okay ladies... yesterday was NOT good... no workout & 3 cookies and 2 glasses of milk later... I feel disgusting!  I did try and be good  yesterday and only ate oatmeal and 1 piece of toast when i went out with my sister for breakfast.  Lunch was fine and dinner I made the best turkey meatloaf w/ peas & muskmelon.  But the FI made cookies with the little ones annnnnnd my will power snapped!  Good idea about the ice water Mari on my last cookie remember thinking "why am I doing this I am not hungry?" Answer "BUT I WANT A COOKIE!" yeah not my proudest moment lol
  • Maribeth - yes, I weigh myself daily. I cannot break that habit. I feel totally "off" if I don't weigh myself. I'm not sure if I should try to stop or leave it as is.

If I lose weight, then it can go one of two ways -- 1: I'm happy about the progress and keep it up or 2: I'm happy about the progress and figure a whopper wouldn't hurt.

And if the scale is the same or higher, it can also go one of two ways -- 1: I am so angry and disappointed in myself and I start making more changes or 2: I am so angry and depressed I eat away!

It's kind of like I'll never win! LOL!

I REALLY want to be out of the 200s. Maybe once I do THAT I'll back off from the weighing myself daily.

  • Thanks everyone! I don't have a lot to lose, more toning and just avoiding fatty foods are my main goals, but it never can hurt to be in better shape! :)

We did buy a bunch of fruit this past weekend which I've been munching on all week. I forgot how delicious watermelon is and it fills my need for sugars! :)

btfl: Do you write down all your weigh ins?  I would start keeping a log of your calorie intake, exercise and each weigh in.  Even writing down your feelings would help.  Maybe after a week or so of that it will help you decide what the best course of action is when you have that 1lb increase.  That way you can look back say "this is what I did last time and it didn't work out"  maybe you would avoid going that route or it could  be extra motivation to work out and eat right again :)
  • Morning everyone!

Lbarr- I went through the same stomach issues, I saw countless gastro docs to no avail. It wasn't until I had a catscan of my stomach that they noticed my appendix was enlarged 3x the size its supposed  to be so I went in for emergency surgery. While in there, they noticed I had scarring on my gall bladder. Once I had the surgery and my stress level went down drastically, my issues weren't as bad. I still have my gall bladder because lets face it who wants to have more surgery, but I think if if they keep going I'll have to have it removed. The moral of the story is never give up, if one Dr tells you that your fine and its stress or in your head get a new Dr. Your body is telling you otherwise. I hope you get the bottom of everything soon, I know how frustrating it can be :(

Last night was my first fitting, so no exercise for me yesterday. And, my dress was way too big. Which I guess is a good thing because my determination to lose weight paid off! Eating was good though we had sushi after the appt.

Today will be another rest day I'm thinking because I have to pick up our rings and I'm having dinner with a friend in Natick. I'll have to double up on the swimming tomorrow to catch up!
  • scheff - congrats on the fitting!  And, my word do I LOVE Natick (read: the mall.) :)  I used to work right there!

  • Yesterday was a rest day for me for the most part. I was pretty far under my calories, though I would say the "quality" of the food I ate yesterday wasn't the best.

Took a walk in the blazing heat with crazy humidity yesterday with my co-workers. It was miserable, but I was happy to get the activity in. After dinner FI and I went grocery shopping for 2+ hours and for the day I ended up having over 11,000 steps.

Tonight would be a gym night, but we're going to see a baseball game. I'm trying to encourage the people I'm going with to walk to the park from a mile or so away, just so I can get some activity in :)

  • @Sunrise - If you are looking to use them for indoor cycling definitely need the clips. You will need to have them put in. I got mine put in at the store where my shoes came from. It only took about 10 mins. It makes the ride so much different. You use different muscles on the pull up because you aren't relying on the stirrup of the pedal to pull up. Definitely recommend!

@helleb - I am HUGE advocate of indoor cycling/spinning for cardio! I do it 1-2 times a week along with other cardio. It's a great low-impact work out. Don't be intimidated! We were all new once. And honestly you are way, way too busy working on your form and focusing on getting thru the ride to bother with what your neighbor is doing. If you can't keep up, you ride at your own pace, just keep moving. Go to class 5-10 minutes early so the instructor can show you how to position your bike to avoid injury and make your ride more comfortable. Beware, your butt will be pretty sore from the seat the first couple of times you go. But after a couple of times you won't notice it anymore. Bring a nice big water bottle with you too.

@btfl - I seriously recommend to cutting your weigh-ins down to once a week. I think it is impossible to see that much change in a day that is not water weight (either up or down). I think you will get a better idea of where you're at if you do this. Plus it's way more satisfying to get on the scale and see a 1lb loss versus .2lbs loss. It will be hard at first but you just have to force yourself not to get on the scale. If you're weighing yourself at home - put it out of reach so it's too hard to just jump on quickly everyday. And start measuring yourself. The scale isn't everything.

  • lobsters- I know exactly where that is, what a small world! We got our rings at Barmakians so we always take advantage of the great restaurants while we are out there. Living so close to the mall was def not good for my wallet haha.

btfl- I weigh myself every morning. At first it was discouraging because I gained when I first started working out. Like Mari said the first 4 weeks or so I didn't lose an ounce but it was because I was gaining muscle. If you use your measurements you will see a bigger difference. It takes time, but don't get discouraged, your body is changing and focus more on your measurements and how your clothes feel. The scale is ONE way to measure, not the only way.
  • Thanks Scheff!  It is really frustrating.  I had a CT scan and that didn't really show much.  Just a really minor thing that wouldn't be the cause of my issues but could make the problem a little more irritating.  I think they've basically said that I have IBS and gave me pills for when it gets bad.  Cool bro, but that doesn't help me prevent anything just try and put out the fires.  My PCP thinks I should avoid dairy for awhile and see how that goes so I'm going to do that.  Dairy has been known to contribute to some but not all of them.  Essentially, I get to play the game of "hey let's figure out what I can and can't eat."  With that said, certain things bother me some times but not others.  So much fun!
  • lbarr, I'm sorry to hear about what you're going through, but it is so good to see you back on here!

I was initially diagnosed with IBS and am lactose intolerant, so I can understand your frustration and feel terrible to hear you have to deal with this.
Have you gotten another opinion?  The specialist I ended up with already knew I had gastroparesis, which can have very similar symptoms to IBS, but thankfully they later found out that the additional issue was not IBS, but was actually a fiber intolerance.  I switched to a low fiber diet and all has been well since then.  Good luck and I hope we'll see you around more!
    Anniversary
  • Lbarr that is EXACTLY what my Dr said to me. IBS and try to see if its a gluten intolerance, then a dairy intolerance, then its just try to de-stress bc thats whats causing your issues. UMM how about you do some actual Medical Testing to see what is Medically going on. I have no food allergies, I de-stressed, and still had the issues. We should all be Dr's because I bet we can give the same advice they do, jamokes.

Have you had an ultrasound done? Or an endoscopy to test the lining of your stomach? Cutting out food to see if its an allergy can help, but if its something going on that they aren't seeing cutting out foods that you aren't allergic too won't help.

Btfl, your doctor may be hesitant about the Phentermine because it's classified as a class IV controlled substance. Back in the 90's there were findings of it being related to heart problems in a significant number of users. One of my old roommates told me she had taken it and wished she be we would have, but I don't know what her exact side effects were. At least that is my minimal understanding of it, I would just go over all the info with your doc. ETA: Found our that was PhenFen I was referring to about the heart thing, so it was Phentermine mixed with something else. Just be careful though! Me, my alarm did not go off this morning so I missed bootcamp and I'm so mad about it. I did run my two miles though. I wanted to go longer but it was two hours later and 15 degrees hitter than my normal run time so that didn't happen. Bummer.
  • Happy Thursday to everyone! I'm a pretty new here so I'll post how my week's been: Monday I was lazy and ate well until the candy bar... Still just under my calorie goal though!
Tuesday was Hot Yoga and sushi for dinner. Ended up way under the calorie goal.
Last night, Hot Yoga again and no dinner! I don't really know what happened, I just went to bed and realized that I forgot to eat. Knowing my hunger would probably wake me I had a small bowl of cereal.. But ended up 600 calories below the goal!
Today I plan to go to kickboxing after work. I usually don't have motivation to work out 2 days in a row, let alone 3. I'm not really sure where this motivation is coming from but I'm cool with it!

@Ibarr - I was diagnosed with IBS about a year ago and it sounds like we have similiar issues. I have yet to be able to pinpoint specific foods that upset my stomach but I have a few foods that I know don't which I turn too when I'm feeling sick (crackers, toast, peanut butter, cheese, fruit). For me it comes down to is my stress level. Controlling my stress through yoga, working out more (if I go a week without working out, I get an IBS attack- never fails) and talking about things that bother me as soon as they come up have all helped me. My gastro doc gave me pills to take everyday but they make me incredibly nauseous so I stopped them.. I guess what I'm trying to say is you aren't alone! PM anytime if you're frustrated and need someone to talk to.. :)
  • Lobsters, this GI doc was sort of my second opinon.  For years people had said lactose or IBS then I finally went to this guy and he did a bunch of tests, etc.  He didn't say to stay away from dairy, rather my new PCP did.  I was less bloated this am since I substituted my yogurt and granola for fresh fruit salad, a smidge of granola, and a wrap with a teeny bit of PB (for protein).  So far so good.  I'm wondering if it could be a fiber thing too because I'm always super uncomfortable after eating salads and what not.  Hmmm, lots of experiments with foods to try!

  • I should say when I was "diagnosed" with IBS it was after I tried all of the following (it was a very busy and expensive May-June 2011 for me):
2 weeks of a dairy-free diet that failed
An ultrasound on my gallbladder/appendix which showed normal
A celiac's disease/gluten intolerance blood test which was negative
Trying both high-fiber and low-fiber diets (1 week each) that didn't stop the symptoms
And a colonoscopy to rule out Crohn's disease - which it fortunately did

You definitely should try low and high fiber diets. I did a fiber supplement, starting out with a very small amount of the powdered stuff and having a little more each day for a week for high-fiber, which the gastro doc recommended.

The more things I tried, the more comfortable I feel with the diagnosis. I would recommend that you try as many diets/food combinations as you can to make sure you understand fully your limitations. Good Luck!
  • Morning all!

lbarr, happy to hear from you again, but sorry that you're still having stomach issues :( I hope they all get sorted out soon! For now just pretend you are a detective...

Got up this morning and realized that I had NOTHING that I like to eat for breakfast. It was disturbing. No eggs, no yogurt, no milk, etc. Sooo I ran to the grocery store real quick! I hate not being able to eat as soon as I get up. I am just one of those people that doesn't want to talk to anyone before getting breakfast in.. I get grouchy, start feeling sick, etc. I think it was the fastest grocery shopping pitstop I've ever been on!

Anyway, gotta go make up my lunch now as I work in 55 minutes! Lots of fruits & veggies on the menu today. As for exercise, I'm going to go for a quick 2 mile run when I get home from work!

  • Natick - did somebody say Natick.  I lived there 5 years ago.  Just sold my house there about 2 years ago.   I miss Boston and try to get back at least once a year to visit friends and familiy.  I wonder if we ever ran into one another there :)

Yesterday was good considering I didn't exercise and had crap food at the Sounders game but still managed to stay under calories.

Today I was back on the bike to work that gives me 600 extra calories - yippee!  We're going to our venue for a final meeting tonight and will probably have dinner there.
