Strange question time

Re: Strange question time

  • I'd probably spend the first 10-15 minutes trying to get a hold of H and figuring out WTF happened before making any moves. After that, I'd take down all the interior doors in the house (closets, pantry, laundry room) and use those to board up all exterior windows, and then reinforce the doors as well. Grab all the guns and ammo, flashlights/candles, matches/lighters, and take inventory of food/supplies. I would want to know what all I've got and what I need prior to setting out in search of supplies/other people.

What I would miss most in this scenario would be the modern conveniences. Air conditioning, showers, tampons, toothpaste, contact lenses. And of course, interaction with others. I do well by myself for long periods of time, but after a while it gets boring and you just want to talk to someone.

  • Yeah after reading what arwo wrote, I'm pretty sure I'd become a pet saving crusader. I'd probably die just trying to get as many pets as I could. If the scenario is that all pets are gone too, I'd be really upset because Tory and Willow would be gone. But I'd load up my guns and go hunting/wandering.

<div>No peanuts nearby but there are some up north. So hopefully i wouldn't have to miss them long.  I have an old hand grinder (like for making sausages and such) that i think would work in a pinch.</div>
  • I would stay put in my house while trying to reach Scott. what else am I going to do? Go out and shoot things because the power is out? After a few hours of that, I would grab the dog and go to my parents house. If when I discovered they weren't home, I would go to the hospital nearest to their house, then the hospital nearest to my house, then the hospital my mom works at. Basically I would use up all of my gas and not take things seriously enough and die. I would probably move into my parents house, especially if their dogs were still there. I would want a mother fuckin twinkie because I always want a twinkie.
  • Question- why is everyone arming themselves? I can understand one gun out of fear and self defense purposes, but why multiple weapons or raiding armories? If there's truly no one left, who are you going to shoot?

the fact that you have no way of knowing 100% they are all gone, or whether theyve become something else, or if something else is out there and can get you. Its a precaution.

  • I probably wouldn't take a weapon either but only because I wouldn't know what to do with it!

Although I also think Koda is on to something by going to Costco. Yeah the food is perishable but if you're the only one left there will be plenty of deodrant, tampons, etc!

I'd definitely take my Kindle before I left the house. There are lots of books on there I could read to pass the time.

I just asked this of some work friends and the one guy said that the first thing he would do is hightail it as far away from pickering as he could, and it dawned on me. NUCLEAR REACTORS! eventually their backups would shut down and there would be a risk of meltdown. I looked on a map and there are TONS of nuclear reactors around me :(
  • i didn't even link of reactors.  A lot of people are probably effed.  Un less there is some kind of terminal failsafe.

    US reactors:
  • But then you'll have four arms to wield hatchets. I would want a twinkie because, for as bad as I am about junk food, it's the one food I can never justify buying so I have them pretty rarely. If all of a sudden they were gone, I would have missed my opportunity to have 40 of them in one sitting. All of this is sounding like fantastic justification to go buy twinkies right now.

The closest reactors to me are 70 Miles south and 183 miles north. Would I be SOL?

I think you pretty much have to.
  • What's the nuclear fallout radius for a reactor? The closest ones to me are 50+ miles from my house, but still, that seems too close in case one of them goes kaboom. I also wonder how long they could go on their own before they destruct.

says that within 50 miles of a ractor and the food/etc is bad to eat. so I am guessing as long as you are further than 50 miles youre MAYBE ok?

  • Uggghhh, there's 2 reactors within 17 miles of where we're moving this summer. FML.

Crap.  Pirate just brought to my attention yesterday that the area H and I are house hunting in is within 10 miles of a nuclear reactor.  Between that, my lack of survival skills, and being deaf, I'm fuucked.

  • Looks like we're near 3 in Arizona and when we move in August we'll be sandwiched between a few. Damn.

  • Hey, anna, can I borrow that walking dead machete thing with the hook end, indefinitely? I need it for... a thing.
  • Sounds like you definitely need it more than me!
  • LOL These posts are fun to read!

I would grab what weapons/utensils I thought would be useful, gun, pocket knife, fill a backpack with water, food and an extra pair of undies. Grab the car keys (because I don't own a bike) and see what I can find out.
  • I feel like a freak, because we're totally prepared for this. We have a plan that if something ever happens and we're not at home - leave and head home immediately. If I were already home I would grab the essentials (we have a bag loaded with guns and a ton of extra ammo for this reason), and my bow and stay put. If FI never showed up, I'd freak out.

We also have a garage attic full of canned goods and dehydrated food, gallons upon gallons of water (that we replace every year just in case). I have a tub full of extra things like toothbrush, toothpicks, needles, my crocheting stuff, pillow cases, lotion, first aid kits. We also have dice and a couple decks of cards, my ass would get bored.

My sister has done all this plus gotten tubs full of rice, flour, noodles etc. Can you tell I'm creeptastically paranoid?

  • I don't think I would freak out at first... unless the dogs weren't in the bedroom with me.  After a little while I would try to call FI cell phone (if I could)  then I would start to prepare for the worst.  I live in a pretty rural area so I don't think that the zombie horde would get to me too soon.  I would gather my stockpile , and have a lonely "I told you so" moment to all of my friends who laugh at my stockpile and load it in the car, just so I had it with me if I couldn't get back to the house.  Write a bajillion notes to FI, grab the dogs and go out looking for more supplies and info.  The only bad thing is I have no weapons except for knives.  I would then break into the library because boredom would probably kill me before zombies.  Then raid local stores, bars and houses!  Then I would cry and freak out.

[QUOTE]Ok let's say this happened, everyone is pretty much gone so production of everything stops. What would you miss? I think I'd miss cheese, dairy products like that, showers and seafood. Like, shellfish which we just don't have here naturally.

I would grab Nebb and dive into the East River out back.  There's penty of seafood there!
And then maybe Nebb would like me again.  Who knows?  If i saved her life, she would have to!
