S/O: "Popular" things you don't get

Stitches' thread below about not having seen something made me realize there are a lot of things that I've skipped over that most people are obsessed with.

Some movies that come to mind:

Star Wars -- I've never seen any of them

Lord of the Rings

Avatar

The Godfather

The Matrix

With the exception of the Godfather because I actually really love mob/gangster movies, I have little or no interest in seeing the rest of my list. I just don't get the other ones. Not my cup of tea, I guess.

As far as beauty trends go, I don't really get pointy fingernails or super long ones. I kind of think they're gross.

I know Liv asked about peplums the other day. I think they're cute when I see them on models or mannequins but I haven't actually seen this on a normal woman and liked it.

What about you?

I can relate to the Star Wars movies. I have seen a couple but honestly I've never gotten super into them and I don't have any interest in watching them. I told my a friend of mine that while we were in college and he made me sit in his room and watch star wars movies all day. I fell asleep...

James Bond movies (I've seen maybe 1-2)
Bourne Supremacy movies (I've seen one and I didn't pay any attention at all)
I never read Fifty Shades of Grey

I attempted to read "Twilight." I got halfway through the first book before I quit. I think that level of effort deserves a cookie.

And based on the writing, I refuse to see the movies.

I never read or seen any of the Twilight movies- I just don't care
I will never read 50 Shades of Grey

I've never seen any of the Godfather movies either. There is probably a lot more but this is all I can come up with right now.

I love Bond, Bourne and Star Wars but that's ok if you haven't seen them. Its not for everyone, I just love a good action spy flick.

What I don't understand is all the love and hype for Taylor Swift, I understand that people like her songs, but really it doesn't need to be on my news feed, or talked about on radio stations that aren't pop and top 40. I have fits of rage when she comes on over the air waves and I can't change the station fast enough.

I haven't read/seen the Twilight books/movies.

It took me a while to get into the newer Marvel movies (Hulk, Iron Man, etc), but now I'm slightly obsessed...especially Iron Man. I think RDJr is my hero.

Pinterest. While I've pinned a few things, I do not have expansive, well organized, pin boards. I'll get a small spurt that lasts about 30 minutes, and then I'm done with the whole thing. There's far too much redundant crap on that site and it makes my brain hurt.

Twitter. I tried. It's just not coming naturally to me. (Sorry RDR)

Liv, I don't get Instagram either. I'm a hashtag failure.

I think I'm just overall bad at trendy things. I don't understand what the craze is over gel manicures. What is the difference? I don't know if this is still popular but I hate American Idol. Why is it still on TV?

I've never seen Star Wars or Star Trek and I get both of them mixed up ALL the time.

Never read Twilight and only watched the first hour of the first movie.

TBH I've never really watched a lot of "series" movies. I think recently HP and Hunger Games are the only series movies I've watched.

Oh wait I lied, I just remembered Bean's post about Iron Man I've seen that series of movies too. My BF got me hooked on Iron Man and the way he did it was: "RDJr is in it".

Not getting Twitter. I tried it.

I don't get the whole year round tan and fake nails trend in my neck of the woods.

Bean: You're forgiven. I know a lot of people don't get it. I've just been on it since the beginning and I think that's where my love comes from. I also interact with a ton of people on there (Devils and Eagles fans mostly) which I think helps.

I also don't get into girly things. Actually, the stuff I don't get could probably fill an encyclopedia. I don't get anything that requires face-to-face socialization with multiple people.

I also don't get Pinterest or having fancy houses. For example, our 'laundry room' is our garage. It's a stack washer/dryer that I got for $150 at a thrift store, a dead fridge that I use for the storage space on top, a fold-out table for folding, and a plain metal bar for hanging stuff. The floor's poured concrete and has a rug that smells faintly of cat pee because that smell never dies. The dryer isn't even hooked up to a vent, so it gets really humid in there when the dryer's going. But you know what?

It cleans clothes. Purpose served.

Hmmm I'm definitely jumping on the "I hate Twilight/50 Shades of Grey" bandwagon. I read the first Twilight novel and started the 2nd before the hypnosis wore off and I realized it sounded like my little 13 year old (at the time) sister whining to me about how horribleawful her sad little life was.

Other things I don't get... crazy nail art like you find on Pinterest...who really has time for "ombre" nails anyway???? Lots of makeup. I feel like two of my best girlfriends have recently gotten into all these high end make up and nail polish brands (anyone ever heard of Butter London?) and that's ALL they ever talk about now. I've never really been a make up wearer... dressing up for me is putting on mascara, eyeshadow, and maybe lip gloss. I also don't get TV. Maybe it's because I don't have cable but I get SO tired hearing about reality shows like American Idol or Swamp Loggers or Duck Dynasty or whatever else is super popular right now.

I could seriously write a book on the things I don't get. Like why are all the teenagers dressing like it's the early 90s again? Wasn't 90s fashion bad enough in the 90s? Maybe I'm just turning into a clueless old fogie at 25.

I don't get Instagram. I like taking pictures and sometimes using cool filters, but I don't want to share them with everyone! My little sister made me add her and her best friend on Instagram and her friend always uses these stupid quotes as captions for her photos, and hashtags everything, and I find it annoying.

I shall explain this one. I can't wear regular nail polish on my fingernails. It will chip in less than a day. A gel manicure will still look pretty good two weeks after I do it. Also, it's 100% dry when I'm done. No accidentally touching something and messing it up because it's not fully dry yet.

I'm also not into Pinterest. I eventually gave in and tried it, sorta, but it doesn't do anything for me. Neither does Twitter. Or Instagram. I'm also not into Coach bags. And probably a whole host of other things.

motoLyn-I love you! She is strange looking and a terrible singer, and I don't get her appeal. At all.

I don't understand why anyone cares about anything Kardashian, or how they remain 'celebrities'. Most of the people I know are on the same page as I am and cannot stand them, yet they seem to be everywhere, so someone, some place, has to care enough to buy enough magazines and enough of their crap to keep them in the spot light. They need to go away.

Thank goodness I read this! I had all but lost faith in my gender over the whole 50 Shades and Twilight thing.

I also don't get tweeting and hashtags. I think I had a tweet account when the snake escaped the NY zoo and someone created a humorous acct for it. Since then my tweet account has been hacked several times, and I get to laugh and laugh at the person who wasted their time with a dead tweet account that has no followers or numbers linked.
