Dress fitting

I had my first dress fitting last night and it went well I actually have to get my dress taken in!  But what worries me is that as soon as I put it on I started feeling sick and it didnt go away for at least an hour, not sure if it was nerves or what but I hope I don't feel like that the day of the wedding. Did anyone else feel like this?
Also I was wondering around how much alterations should cost.  My mom kind of freaked about the $450 quote the seamstress gave her.  I am getting it altered at the boutique we bought it at and I feel like you get what you pay for.  I am getting it hemmed, a double french bustle, taken in and also the boning in the bodice is getting shortened.

Re: Dress fitting

  • Hi Heather,

My dress is Allure 8862 (you can google it for an idea of what it looks like). The person who did my alterations was recommended by the boutique where I got my dress. I got it hemmed, a bustle, taken in at the top about an inch, and had a "hook & eye" added in (I think that's what they are called). My total was $130. I know different areas different pricing etc.

    Good luck.
  • That sounds about right considering what's all being done.

Mine cost $241 and my bodice is being taken in, cap sleeves are being removed and I'm having a permanent bustle put in.

  • Mine was $302 I have a dress with a lot of lace that needed to be shortened and the shoulder scrapes needed to be taken in. It depends on the dress and everything you are getting done. The more intricate the dress the more expensive the alterations are.

  • I paid about $350 to have hem and bustle and let out a little (darn kiddo) and I am on my 3rd fitting. I was freaking out because after I had my kid I didn't go back to my regular size, even though I am working out and changing how I eat, I figured with little time left I would start early. The lady doing mine has done amazing work and I was suppose to have my last fitting last week but she saw something she didn't like so she is having me come back in a week before my wedding for my final fitting.

I agree you pay for quility and there are so many layers and beading and such on wedding dresses that they do A LOT of work on those dresses just to do something as simple as hem it and make it look perfect!

i got my dress from davids bridal and had it altered there. I was gonna go somewhere else cause i figured they would be high plus when i tried the dress on it fit perfectly so i didnt thik it would need much... well when i went for mu first fitting i have lost some weight and the dress was way to big. They had to take in both sides from top to waist and because i am so short had to hem it up a good bit. So when they gave me a price of 380 me and my mom almost fell over. But like my dad said they are doing alot of work and they know what they are doing. My dad said he would pay for them and when i went back for my fitting it was perfect. And as for being sick, i did also. The whole car ride home i thought i was gonna get sick. I am pretty sure it is just nerves. Good luck
  • This is absolutely terrible of me to do but I have to brag for a moment. I have had the sheer luck of the dress actually fitting in every single way!! My seamstress said 1 in 200 girls actually end up having a perfectly fitting gown. I am going to end up with a final bill of $50 to have a bustle installed but other than that, there is finally ONE THING in this wedding that came out at or under budget!! Finally.
  • Does no ones dress come with a bustle? Mine did...

Not most, most people want to be able to decide themselves if they prefer a European bustle or an American bustle.
