registry item with terrible reviews purchased.....bad form to return item?

So, FI and I registered a couple weekends ago.  The process took a lot longer than we thought, and as a result we really only got the dining and some kitchen stuff picked out.  Whenever I have free time I've gone online to add stuff to our registry, and to also check out reviews on some of the bigger ticket items we picked out in store.  Well, a couple guests must have been super anxious to buy us something because shortly after word got out that we had registrered a few items got purchased (before I had gotten a chance to look up reviews on everything).  One of those was a blender, which as it turns out, has gotten terrible reviews all over the internet.  I'm disappointed, because it's fairly expensive ($130) and was a really good looking blender.

When we do receive it and I try it out after the wedding, if it works as poorly as everyone says it does, is it terrible of me to return it?

  • No, you can return it if you are unhappy with it. I would write them a TY note for the blender and not mention your intentions to return it though.

  • Why would it be terrible?  If it is poor quality, why keep it? It's not like anyone will know you took it back.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • If the reviews are as bad as you say, I might not even try it out. Write the thank you for the blender then return it and get something you know that you will love.  The person who bought it want to get you something that you love so don't think too hard about it.

  • Cool.  I mean, if it turns out my mom or sister or FI's mom or sister bought it we are comfortable enough with them to say "hey this thing got really bad reviews and doesn't work well" (especially if it's FI's parents who bought it.......if we ever sell our condo we are most likely staying with them until we find a house and they will know if don't have the same blender!).  But, if it's any other guest, it's true they will never know that we didn't keep it.

For every bad review, there could be 3 or 4 good ones that werent posted though. People tend to put product reviews up when they are unhappy with a product not when they ARE... so usually you will see a lot more negative reviews than positive ones.

I would try it out and see if you like it before you return it. Just b/c others didn't like ir, doesn't mean you wont.

I think it is fine to return an item if you aren't happy with it.

  • It's a breville hemisphere mini blender.  On multiple sites it has 1-2 stars, most saying that it's terrible for making smoothies, it starts to leak after a few uses, and it's impossible to take it apart to clean the blade section.
  • that's too bad - i love my breville juicer!

You can get a regular blender for not much more than that.

[QUOTE]Can you return a blender after using it? I'm pretty sure once you use it, you cannot return it, unless it malfunctions.

<div>If their registry is at Bed Bath and Beyond they can return it after using it. BBB will let you return pretty much anything.</div>
  • I wish I had been as thorough as you with reading reviews of items received for my shower. Of all things my soap dispenser was the problem item, go figure! Shortly after filling it and placing it in my bathroom I noticed it began to get rust spots all over it, and this continued to happen despite regular cleanings. Eventually (and I mean over a year later) I finally decided to throw it away, and when I got the random urge to check its reviews online I noticed that every single review was negative and mentioned a problem with rust. If you are already concerned about negative reviews I would just return it instead of feeling sorry later that you didn't.

  • Breville also doesn't have great warranties or customer service. I had a $300 coffee maker go bust after 1 year and 2 weeks and they wouldn't do anything about it because the warranty was only one year!
