Wedding Party

2 Best men = 2 maids of honor??

My fiance has convinced himself that he has to have 2 best men (either two of his best friends or two of his closest cousins). He thinks that only picking one of the two would offend the other one, blah blah blah. I don't have a problem with this. However, I've been having trouble picking a MOH. I only have 1 sister so that would be my choice right? We haven't always been close or BFF material but she would be the natural choice. I only have one cousin on my dad's side who we both grew up with (every family vacation/holiday features the 3 of us in matching outfits etc.). So I was thinking that since my fiance was dead set on having 2 best men that to match, I could have 2 MOH. It's not something I hear about often so I wasn't sure if anyone out there has done this before or has any thoughts/opinions about it. I would appreciate any advice!! (For reference, my sister and cousin are not caddy girls who would fight each other's opinions). Thanks!!

  • You dont have to have equal sides, so if your FI has 2 best men, you do not need to have 2 MOH unless you want. & to address having your sister as your MOH, if you are not as close with her as you are someone else & would rather have that person (your best friend?) then go ahead. You do not have to have your sister as your MOH out of obligation. There is no rule that says siblings must be in the WP. Pick someone who you really want right there by your side to be your MOH.

  • Not in the slightest.  Throw the idea that ratios are important out the window.  They aren't.  These are your loved ones and closest friends, not color swatches and props.  If you think you have two women in your life that are so close to you that they BOTH should be MOHs, then make them both MOHs.

If you make two random girls MOHs to match some silly number on the other side, the girls will know.  They'll know the title is an empty name, and MOH means nothing to you.

You can have 2, or 1, or none.

  • I had two MOHs; H only had one BM.  You definitely don't have to match.  Ask those nearest and dearest to you, regardless of gender or number.  You don't have to have a MOH, or you could have 1 or 2 as PPs said.
  • My Fiance has 2 brothers, and when the middle one got married, he had BOTH his brother as his best men, and his wife had her sister and her bestfriend both as MOH and that was it for the wedding party. Now we are getting married and my fiance will also have BOTH his brorthers as Best men and then 4 groomsmen. I only have 1 sister (who is 8 years younger then me but have always had a pretty strong relationship) she will be my only MOH. This is an important title I feel she deserves as my sister and friend (and someone I know for a fact will ALWAYS be in my life) that I don't want to make her share! So I will have 1 MOH and 5 bridesmaids.

So really.... anything goes.... just give the title(s) to the people you want to have it.
