Bridal party entrance...

Is it necessary to introduce the bridal party at the beginning of the reception?

Re: Bridal party entrance...

  • I've seen it both ways. You don't have to do it. I haven't missed it when it's skipped.
  • The only thing "necessary" at a wedding are the bride, groom, and an officiant.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Ask your bridesmaids what they think. Some of them might be shy and not comfortable with a grand entrance.
  • Nope, not necessary at all.  Quite frankly, it was one less thing to worry about coordinating and controlling.  I was just ready to get on with the partying after the ceremony, and I'm sure my bridal party felt the same.

  • Not necessary.  We introduced them as well as our parents.   We especially wanted our parents recognized and they didn't mind at all.  They just walked in, no fancy dancing or anything.
  • You don't have to, but we did. I thought it would be a good way to get everyone in their seats to start dinner. But the DJ or someone else can just announce that dinner will be starting soon or whatever you prefer! We didn't do anything too special either. WP walked in to one song and we walked into our college hockey team's song at the beginning of the games. We kinda danced as we walked up but nothing crazy. I think it got people pumped up but that was the feel we wanted. If you want something more low key, totally fine.

  • Not necessary. You can just walk in normally. Among your guests, even. We're doing exactly that - after some pictures, we're going to go mingle with our guests during cocktail hour and then just walk in with them.

I told my FI that I wouldn't do a grand entrance unless we could play "Fortunate Son" by CCR and swing jackets above our heads, reminiscent of the helicopter-Vietname scene in Forrest Gump.
