Need Venue Ideas for KY

I'd prefer for it to be outside, with an indoor backup available.  If it's within a 1-1.5 hour drive of Lexington, that'd be great too.

I'm not too fond of the barn ideas, or churches.  Trying to keep it affordable and small - 50 people or so.  I don't want to spend thousands on a venue - if I could keep it to a couple hundred, that would be awesome!  It's just so hard to find something affordable.  I'd be willing to spend a little more if they include tables, chairs, tents, and stuff like that.

I'm leaning towards Boone Tavern because they meet all these criteria, but I'm still hoping to find more options.  I would love to bring food and drinks, and I don't believe I can there (or most places).

I just need any and all advice I can get!  I'd like to have as little hassle as possible, so parks seem to end up adding more for me to do - and I don't know if I can handle doing all of it...

Thanks in advance!

  • Boone Tavern is gorgeous! If you can afford it, I vote for that one. What outdoor space do they use?

Unfortunately, you are kind of in a pickle between your budget and wants. I'd think any true venue, that isn't a park, would be more than a couple hundred.

Cumberland Falls (Corbin, KY) is beautiful, has an indoor option, and can do catering and such, but may be out of your price range. I think it was $500 for the ceremony space near the waterfall, and  $400 for the biggest reception space. They do have a beautiful patio area, but we had too big of a guest list to ask the price while looking. I know it is less than the space we looked at, but I'm not sure by how much.

Have you considered Red Mile's round barn? I know you said no barns, but it doesn't look like a typical barn. I have no idea what the cost would be.

A winery may be nice, but again, I don't know the prices: the Monarch Pavilion at Talon Winery sounds like a good fit for your needs.

    Good luck!

</div><div>Try looking for historical sites in the area. Some of them will allow you to use the site for a wedding venue and are generally pretty afforadable. Some even take donations. I can't think of any in particular, but it's something to think about and possibly look into.

  • Chrisman Mill Winery is a nice and intimate venue. I didn't really care for Talon when I visited, the person was rude and it was too expensive for just a barn.
The Bell House and The Bodley-Bullock House are other cute and historic wedding venues for a small party

Oh, I'll have to research Cumberland Falls.  I've looked all over, but didn't see this page you linked.<div>
</div><div>We're flexible with the budget, but want to save as much as we can.  I'm just getting frazzled at this point.  I've been engaged three months now, and still haven't picked a date or location! <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-surprised.gif" border="0" alt="Surprised" title="Surprised" /></div><div>
</div><div>Two other friends/relatives have got engaged in the last month, and already have their date/location picked.  So I feel so ridiculous for not having mine planned yet.  Especially since I want it to be this year.</div><div>
</div><div>Thanks to all for the advice!  I'm still open to suggestions, and will look into what I can.</div><div>I got some prices from Talon Winery, and it seemed quite expensive to me.</div>

  • I'm in Kentucky and I chose Chuckleberry Winery, it's completely affordable at 300!!! It's in Bloomfield also, about an hour from Lexington! Hope this helps, if you do choose them tell Ladonne Danielle sent you, lol. She's very nice
  • Check the Bell House - really really affordable.  BYO caterer, booze, music, use the inside and out
  • Gingerwood in Prospect, KY is where we got married.  Married outside and had reception indoors.  Beautiful setting.
  • I'm getting married at The Brown Pusey House in Elizabethtown. It has a large backyard garden, formal ballroom, kitchen, dining room, parlor and upstairs. All of it rents for approximately $515 (depending on the day you want it and how long; for a half day it's less expensive). We are having the ceremony outside, but have the ballroom as a backup for inclement weather.

We are less than 2 months away!

We went with Boone Tavern.  Since we are having a small wedding, we aren't renting the large restaurant room of theirs, but a smaller room instead for the reception.  Also renting the outdoor space for the ceremony.  The outdoor space was $100, indoor was $350.

We can't bring any food or drinks other than the cake and wine.  They seem a bit wishy-washy about wine and beer.  Originally we were told we could bring wine and beer, then we were told if we bring beer we will have to pay for a bartender (only $200, but we don't want to).  So we are bringing wine with us.

Can't wait!  And if it rains, they have a covered drive-through area (portico) that we can setup things under for the ceremony.
