One big list of reviews!! 3/30/13 Wedding

There are no grades for the vendors here.  I had a couple bumps with a few of them, but I would use them all again.

Golden Nugget:  For the first half of the trip, we stayed in a two bedroom "Vegas Baby" parlor suite.  It was our first stay in the gold tower, and I really liked it.  No better than the Rush Tower, but much better than Carson.  If I ever need a two bedroom suite again, I'd definitely get this one.  For the second half of the trip, we moved to a smaller Rush Tower Junior Corner Suite.  I missed the fridge, but the room was perfect.  I love the bathroom in this room so much more than the gold tower rooms.  GN was great, as always.  $1300 for 2 bedroom suite, 4 nights.  $300 for Rush Tower Suite, 3 nights.

Lori White:  Lori was marvelous.  She was quick, friendly, and prompt.  She's been doing this a long time, and it shows.  I am very particular about my makeup, and debated a long time about having someone else do it for me.  During the trial, I started to regret it, but she definitely changed my mind.  Her technique and products are very similar to my own, but the outcome was something I never would have done for myself.  I was pleased, and received compliments all day long.  As far as my hair...it was amazing!! I had volume that I didn't even know could exist.  I wish I had taken photos immediately after she did it because I messed it up some before the ceremony.  We took photos beforehand, and it was more humid than usual.   My trial hair lasted all day long, and was gorgeous.  She did the hair for both of my daughters, and we all loved their curls.  Overall, I was very pleased with her, and would use her again.  $350 for my h/mu (trial and day-of) and $25 for each daughter.

DJ Mike Susara with High Flyin Entertainment:  I'm so grateful that I decided to go with a DJ at last minute.  This guy got the party started.  He scheduled a consultation a couple weeks before the wedding with me and my husband.  We didn't have much of a "do not play" list, but we did have a pretty extensive "play" list.  He stuck to it, and incorporated just the right songs at the right time.  I was concerned a bit because we're big fans of old school hip hop, and I was afraid he'd only be interested in playing more modern stuff, but I was wrong.  He got a good feeling for what we like, and he made it happen.  He also brought lighting, which really set off the crystals on my manzanita tree.  I loved it!  He was worth every penny.  $495 for 5 hours (not including his set up and take down.)

Masterpiece Cuisine:  We had 45 guests, and ordered for 45 guests.  As most knotties have said, we still had leftovers.  For our 6 appetizers we ordered the Ahi Poke Wontons, BLT Phyllo, Roadhouse Steak Sandwiches, Jim Beam Meatballs, Feta Stuffed Mushrooms, and Chicken Teriyaki Skewers.  We also ordered the spinach dip and a veggie tray.  There were probably most of the Wontons left over, although it shouldn't deter you from ordering them.  They were delicious, and I don't even like fish.  My only issue with MC is that they were very late.  I don't still know exactly why, but I was told later that there were some issues with parking.  This is Vegas.  You are a delivery company.  I would think parking is always an issue.  Either way, when they called to ask about how things turned out a couple days after the wedding, I let them know how displeased I was.  A manager later left a message stating they'd refund $100.  I've already received the check.  Happy camper.  $1106.

Planet Hollywood Apex Suite:  This suite really was fabulous.  However, if we had 10 less guests, I would have gone with the Vista at MB, no doubt.  The space was just right for the amount of guests we had.  I can't imagine more than 50 in that room (and that was with us bringing in 5 extra chairs.)  The bar was big enough, and seemed to work well for the bartender. Someone (I have no idea who did it, but I'm guessing the DJ) moved the ottoman out of the living area, and it was perfect space for dancing.  I was pretty excited about the foosball and bumper pool tables, but everyone was too busy to play them.  I can't speak much to anything else since we didn't actually sleep in the room either night.  For Friday and Saturday night, $1960.

Culinary Pros:  I had requested the services of a bartender and "server."  I use server in quotes because she didn't technically have to serve anything.  Corrine took care of all the last minute things like setting up the cupcakes, putting the cake topper in the cake, letting in the bartender, DJ, and caterer (had they been on time.)  I never once saw Corrine standing still.  She was constantly moving; gathering trash, assisting the bartender, keeping things clean in general.  I heard lots of compliments on the bartender, Jason.  He was personable, knowledgeable, and remembered what everyone was drinking!  He bought ice himself, and brought his own coolers.  This was a big relief for me as my party rental company didn't have a large cooler.  The only thing I was disappointed in was the tip jar.  I didn't even notice there was one out until late in the evening.  I don't know if it was something Jason or a guest put out, but I had specifically stated to Melanie, coordinated everything, that I would take care of the tips personally.  I could not have had such a lovely party without these guys.  $30/hour for each with 5 hour minimum.

DDB:  My experience with this company was very frustrating.  I wish it had gone as smoothly as it usually does.  I received a call from Mike when we got to Vegas to let us know that the construction at the Quad was preventing his bus from being able to pick us up. He suggested picking us up across the street at Caesar's, but was willing to consider alternatives.  I drove around the area myself the day before, but didn't see a better option.  I agreed to meet at the Forum Shops valet at 6PM.  This was a total nightmare for my guests.  No one had any idea where they were going.  If we had all stuck together as a group, it probably would have been fine, as Tyler knew where he was going.  Unfortunately, that just wasn't the case.  If I had it to do all over again, I think I would have scrapped the bus given this situation.  The guide was corny, but the driver was incredible.  Evidently, she was late, I think...she apologized to me, and was the most sincere person I dealt with during the entire trip.  I think there was an issue with Mike being concerned about the bus being too tall for the Forum Shops clearing.  Odd, since he suggested we meet there.  They were willing to drive us around for an extra 30 minutes, but I knew my guests were hungry, and wanted them to eat while the food was hot.  Too bad it wasn't there.  :S  $318

Silver Sky Chapel:  We got the "Love Me Tender" package.  I didn't see anywhere that they charge an extra $50 for a Saturday wedding, so that was a surprise.  We were allowed to use our photographer for an outside vendor fee of $150.  This was one of the reasons I chose this location.  I wish I had known they would still be using the chapel photographer as well.  I would have asked that he not interfere with the photographer I've paid for.  I would have mentioned this to the photographer if I weren't freaking out about the broken strap on my dress.  I thought we had fixed it right up until we got to the chapel.  I missed out on the opportunity to sit back, relax, and be in the moment.  This, of course, is not the chapel's fault.  If probably would have helped though if we weren't traipsing all over God's creation looking for this place.  I had a miserable time trying to find it.  I'm fairly intuitive when it comes to things like this, but maybe I had bridal brain that day.  The bus drop off spot seemed odd.  Maybe this was due to the construction.  Either way, I was rushed.  I'm not even sure if the pianist played our songs because I was oblivious to everything.  My bouquet was upgraded to include a dozen purple lisianthis and a dozen white roses (+$75.)  It was beautiful.  Reverend David W. Leslie performed the ceremony, and I must say that it was truly touching.  He didn't seem too personable prior to the ceremony, but almost everyone commented about how lovely he was afterward.  You would have thought he's known us all our lives.  I would like to think it was me alone that brought my husband (who never cries!) to tears during the ceremony, but I think it also had something to do with how powerfully Rev. Leslie delivered the message.  I was most pleased with this over everything else.  $635

Discount Party Rental:  I would have gone with RSVP for my tables, but they wouldn't pick up on a Sunday.  As a matter of fact, no one would, but Nancy and Discount Party Rental made an exception.  I wish I could recall how much I ended up paying, but I don't.  Her prices were a bit lower than RSVP, but you don't get the same level of professionalism.  Not to say that she wasn't professional, but it appears to be a business she runs out of her home possibly.  She often had to call me back at a more convenient time for her.  Considering she delivered and picked up in accordance with my schedule instead of her's, I can't complain one bit.  For the suite, I rented three cocktail tables and two banquet tables (one for food, one for DJ.)  As it turns out, we needed two tables for food.  I still don't know where that third table came from.  I hadn't thought about it since the wedding until this moment.  Maybe MC brought it?  $70ish ($40 delivery, I believe)

Tyler Freear:  We truly enjoyed having Tyler around.  He was helpful and kind, especially with the grandparents.  He was patient when I was tripping out about my dress.  My husband insisted on tipping him at the end of the night.  I don't know what else that can be said about him that hasn't already been said.  I cannot wait to see the photos!

Retro Bakery:  Why did I order 10 dozen mini cupcakes?!?  I bet I had 8 dozen left over.  This does not speak to the deliciousness of the cupcakes though.  They were sooooo good.  I only had one the night of the wedding, but we took a dozen back to the hotel with us to eat later.  I totally understand why hopscotch is their best seller now.  I would never have ordered it, but they convinced me, and it was my favorite.  We also got milk and cookies (adorable!), red carpet, chocolate fountain (big thumbs up), and drumstick (also a really good looking cupcake.)  We got a 6" vanilla loves vanilla cake to cut.  It was simply decorated with a silver satin ribbon.  I only had the bite that my husband shoved in my face, but it was really moist.  I wish I had the opportunity to have more.  I can't speak to the delivery since Germanlinda took it for me (in the suite below our's), but I sure hope it went well, for her sake! She's a doll for taking care of that for me, and I'll think of her when we talk about our wedding cake 20 years from now.  $170

Fit for a Bride:  No issues with Debi.  I dropped the dress off on Wednesday as soon as we arrived in Vegas, and they delivered it to me on Friday.  I don't recall the name of the person I spoke with in the office, but she was pleasant to work with.

Bell Trans: Not much to say here.  We rented two 24 passenger busses to transport everyone from Golden Nugget to The Quad.  They were on time with personalized messages so everyone knew it was the correct bus.  We had two people who needed assistance via lift, and it worked out well for their scooters.  When the reception whittled down to about 20 people who were ready to head back downtown, we called them back up, and they sent another bus out for us.  This was so much more convenient/cheaper than everyone getting cabs.  $65 each.

Fox Rent-a-Car:  I don't know what I was thinking going through these guys.  You have to take a seperate shuttle from the car rental center to get to them.  Any other Vegas visit, this probably would have been fine, but not with 12 pieces of luggage.  I reserved a full size 7 passenger SUV, which the reservation described as "Car Type: Chevrolet Tahoe."  When I get into the one and only Tahoe in the lot, I'm told that I can't take the Tahoe...it's a premium rental.  Needless to say, I wasn't budging on this one, and we left the lot with the Tahoe.  I made the reservation through rentalcars.com.  Maybe it was their error, but they eventually honored it.  8 Days $341

  • Thanks for the reviews! I am so sorry to hear about the DDB, but happy to read about Bell Trans and Silver Sky chapel. Did you chose any of the color uplighting in the chapel? I have worried in the past about finding the chapel too, but I am hoping by our date that construction will be done or mostly done. I hope to check it out a day or two before anyway, so I guess remembering the best way there will be helpful too!
  • Congratulations! We are using Culinary pros and having the DDB tour as well. Im sorry to hear about the bumps but it sounded like an excellent day!

  • Wonderful reviews! I made the mistake of going with Fox a few years ago. Don't even get me started. They didn't have the car we rented, so we had to get something of lesser quality and they didn't charge us less. They were yelling at customers. 1 hour wait for a car in the summer heat. They yelled at an old man because he didn't hear them calling the next person in line (umm...because the guy was an OLD MAN and clearly losing his hearing, jerks!)  Never again.

Did you have to make an appointment to drop off your dress at Fit for a Bride, or did you just walk in and tell them when you needed it?

  • Delivery of Retro Bakery was easy. He can't remember his name called me and told me he was about 10min out and asked if I could meet him in the parking/valet area. He told me there were six boxes so I volunteered our daughter to help me. We methe gave me the cupcakes I signed for them and up to our suite we went. From what our DOC Denise said you came and picked them up yourself?
  • So excited to see another fabulous review about Tyler. I can't wait to see your pics!

I did choose the purple which almost seemed pink.  It's all kind of a blur now.  I'll definitely post my pictures when they're in.  I would highly recommend checking the place out beforehand if you have any free time.

I did make a reservation online beforehand.  It's probably not too likely that they couldn't take a walkin, but I couldn't risk it.

I'm a bit disappointed to hear that because I specifically asked if they would deliver them to the suite so that you didn't have to go anywhere.  They told me they'd pass along the request to the driver, and that he would have enough time between deliveries to fulfill this request.  Thank you again, Linda!  I thought Corrine, from CP, picked them up.  I could be wrong, but it definitely wasn't me.  I guess Denise and Corrine don't know each other?
