Att: Lurkers and Quiet Folk

Come out and share something about yourself and your wedding and one rude thing that won't make it into your wedding (creative response encouraged).

I meant to put this on Etiquette for balanced randomness.

  • Am I a quiet folk?  ;)

My wedding was awesome.  We didn't do a dollar dance, even though they're super common around here.

I'm not new, but I gave up TK for lent, and since Easter I've been swamped at work, so I guess I'll re-introduce myself.

ETA: Our wedding was fairly traditional, although we did a wine box which most people at our wedding had never heard of.

It really can't be. That name would amuse me forever. I would call the dog ALL the time. He would be the best trained canine on the planet.

What is the breed of new dog?

I want to name my next dog Starbuck because I'm a BSG fan and fI is a coffee fan.... if it fits the dog, of course.

  • I'm fairly new posting around other boards other than NEY.  My hobby is theater so I typically perform in 2-3 community theatre shows a year I've been doing this for a really long time.

I just got engaged three weeks ago so not much planning has happened yet.  I will not do a cash bar, dollar dance, or put any registry info on my invitations.

  • Lets see.  Something interesting about me, I cheer on an all-star cheer team and we are going to compete at the World Championsips in Florida in 3 weeks and I can't wait to get away from the latest snow storm we're having.

We got married in Hawaii just over a year ago.  We paid our bar tab in full which is super unusual where I'm from.  I don't think I've ever been to an open bar wedding.  Everything is at least a twoonie bar or full bar.

  • Hello! I am getting married in 6 months from yesterday which is quite a scary thing with how much left I feel like I have to do. I love all kinds of music, one of my favorite bands is Fall Out Boy and I have seen them over 30 times (since 2003) and have even travelled across states to see them, but I won't be seeing them on this next tour because the tickets sold out WAY TOO FAST and I refuse to pay over $100 on the after market. It kind of breaks my heart a little bit because they are kicking off in Milwaukee. :-(

We will be having what my florist referred to as a 'kings table' instead of a head table for the wedding party, so that SOs that aren't inthe wedding party can join us!

Something rude I will NOT do is make our nondrinking guests feel out of place during the cocktail hour. We are having signature 'mocktails' passed along with the alcoholic drinks so that everyone can have a fancy drink

I'm getting married 6 months from today (Sunday wedding for me). It IS indeed scary because before, we kept saying that we'll deal with stuff next year and it was over a year away...but it IS next year and eep....time sure passed huh?   I didn't realize that kind of head table had a name. Learn something new every day!

  • Hello Everyone!  I am getting married in October 2014-but it seems so fast to me. I have been engagged since Febuary, but knew about the proposal before it happened. I live in the city-but I miss my quiet suburbs. My FI and I both do Kung Fu. He was a black belt in Tae Kwon Do before he joined me in my kung fu. I am just kinda lurking around here getting ideas as to what is appropiate and what is not. It will be a dry wedding, no dollar dance, we are paying for the wedding ouselves, and no potlucks! (my FMIL actually suggested a potluck-that was idea was shut down rather quickly. :)

I think I count as a lurker (or at least semi-lurker?).   My wedding is a little under six months away (end of Sept.).  I am a computer programmer and my fiancee is in IT.  My passion, however, is baking.  I enjoy cooking too, but for me baking is what really brings me joy.  My dream is to open a little bakery/cafe one day.  When I got engaged I had never been to a wedding as an adult, so I didn't know where to start.  TK and my DOC have taught me alot, and I've finally attended a couple weddings recently.

Rude things I will not do at my wedding: cash bar, include registry info in invitations, use pre-printed address labels on invites (I have no problem with printing directly on the envelope, but labels just look like a mass-mailing, like coupons for oil changes or something), or have a dollar dance.
  • Long time lurker! My wedding is October 12th 2013, I just signed the contract on my venue today and order the save the dates a few minutes ago! I will NOT host just beer and wine with liquor available for purchase as my parents suggested (they're paying) so I'm covering the liquor portion. I live in Key West and am making my family fly down from Virginia to celebrate with me...don't think they'll be too upset about it :) I work in reservations and concierge at a resort and spend my free time fishing and cuddling with my furbabies- two jack russells.
  • Hello! I've made a few posts. I'm getting married in 4 months. I work nights in labor and delivery and he is a chef/restaurant manager. We are having a Celtic wedding, complete with kilts. We're blending Scottish and Irish traditions. Rude things that won't be at the wedding...forcing his mom to give a speech when she doesn't like to be the center of attention. No money dance, cash bar or disco. Which isn't really rude, I just strongly dislike disco. Lol. I lurk here all the time!

  • Hi there! I've been engaged since September, not getting married until Spring 2014. FI and I met in law school. We have a wild 16 month old daughter who is super smart and super awesome. I'm on TK pretty much all day at work, but mostly lurk because I Knot from my iphone. My favorite boards to lurk are budget, chit chat, etiquette, moms and maids and wedding party.

Let's see.....I'm not going to dictate what shoes and hairstyles my bridesmaids wear, even though all 8 weddings I have been in have required specific shoes and hair without the bride paying. Their bridesmaid gift is not going to be wedding related either. Though, again, every wedding I've been in has done this. Honestly didn't know that was bad until I started hanging out here.

I didn't either....although I did feel a little slighted when my gift for being in my best friend's wedding was a pair of earrings that aren't my style but matched the dress. She also said she was paying to have my hair done as part of my gift, then told us she wasn't doing it anymore the day of. She did end up paying in the end..but it was an awkward couple of hours.

  • Hello! I'm getting married this June and....My fiance's name is Jacob, my dog's name is Jake (it's the most interesting thing I could come up with about myself).
I have stopped calling one of my bridesmaids my "Junior Bridesmaid". She is my friend, regardless of her young age, and she'll have the same responsibilities as the other bridesmaids (stand next to me as I get married, the end).
I've also stopped caring nearly as much about them being matchy matchy since being on the Knot, and even recently told one of them that as long as they were naked and they were by my side I didn't care what she wore. Although secretly I'm glad she still got a dress in the color I picked. Wink

  • Well, I was a fairly regular poster until last fall, when I called off my engagement and ended my relationship.  Ex-FI got himself arrested (and was guilty as charged) and lied to me about it (after I bailed him out), and in the process of uncovering that lie I uncovered a few more that made everything a total dealbreaker altogether.  Coming back here is part of my healing, and I figured out that I missed you guys.  I'm doing pretty well most times, but have my moments.  I still don't have an apology or explanation from him, which hurts.  I'm mad at myself for still being kinda hung up on him, despite what he did to us and our family.  Fortunately I didn't lose much money on the wedding (a few hundred), but I'd already made it clear to the reception venue that there was to be enough chairs for everyone - no standing cocktail hour! No cash bar, no money dance, and I stood up to my  mom when she said she didn't think we needed a vegetarian meal option.
  • I'm a quiet folk here :-D I post I guess everyday or so, but I tend to forget about threads and I don't go back until they're dead. Hmmm....interesting fact......I speak Arabic. It's fun. I won't be having a head table - we're doing a sweetheart table so the WP's SOs can sit with them.

Yes, me too, I'm just sorry I got as attached to him as I did first.  It really was an incredible betrayal on his part, and I'm normally a pretty rational person, so I'm frustrated about how attached I still am.  I'm just sick over his son, though.  He'd encouraged us to spend time together and we developed a really close, special relationship, and then all of a sudden I'm out of his life, and I have no idea what kind of explanation was given.  I know as time goes along I'll understand more and feel better about it all, but right now it's still hard.   Thanks.  :)

  • Hi everyone!

I'm mostly a lurker and FI and I have been engaged since February.  We're looking at June 2015 (seems like forever!) so that I can finish up with grad school and save up money.

My life isn't too interesting...although my family and I are die-hard Baltimore Ravens fans (my dad has season tickets) and we travel to one away game each year, which is cool because we get to travel to a new city that we would probably never go to otherwise.

One thing I learned from these boards is not to pick the bridal party too soon.  I will definitely wait to pick my party 9-6 months before the wedding because I've read too many dramatic posts about picking people too soon and then wanting them to "step down" or kicking them out. Not cool.

<div>Thanks!!  We're hoping to wualify for finals this year.  We went in 2011 and missed by 2 points.  We had a huge 1 day snow storm a couple of weeks ago, got about 3 feet of snow and then it was beautiful and started melting again.  Then we got hit again this end of the week with another snowstorm.  Not supposed to warm up again till mid next week.  I am so sick of snow and cold.  </div>

  • Goober is a hound mix - redbone coonhound and basset hound. He is a medium sized dog - I usually describe him as a supersized daschund. He's long like a basset but not quite as short, and definitely has the droopy sad eye face of a basset! (his name partially comes from how much he drools when he drinks from his jowls, and partially from how dopey he behaves!)

I have had him for 3 years this month - it is almost his birthday! I adopted him when he was an adult, the story was sad - his original owners had lost their home and had to give him up because they were moving into an apartment. I can't imagine the heartbreak they went through.

This is Goober being a proper gentleman:
