Addressing Questions...I am sure more to come! LOL

in Wedding Invitations & Paper
1) if a woman is married, but did not take husband's last name. Is she Mrs. or Ms.?

2) If a person is invited with their signifiant other, do you still write that person's name on the outer envelope if they don't live at that address? (I have inner envelopes too)

3)If a person is divorced but kept ex-husband's last name, are they Mrs. or Ms.?


4) If you are giving a person a plus one (but they don't have a significant other), do you write "and guest" on outer envelope or inner envelope? or both?

    I have no idea about the workings of inner envelopes but:

    1. I go by Ms. Maiden. Mrs. Maiden is my mother dangit

    2. I didn't use inner envelopes, but I put the SO name's on the outer one

    3. Ms. Although there are apparently some divorced women who still go by Mrs. Which I think is weird. But I would ask their preference

    2. SO name goes on the inner envelope only 3. Mrs. Carol Doe for divorced and Mrs. John Doe for widow 4. If you can't possibly find out the guest's name, then same as #2...just make sure you get it for the escort card Look at cranes.com etiquette section. It was a giant help to me.

    I'd use Ms.</strong>

    <strong>I would address the outer envelope only to those persons at that address who are invited, but the inner envelope can be addressed to everyone in that household or couple who are invited.  This is where the SO's name can go.</strong>

    This is something I think you need to check out with that person.  Some use Mrs., some use Ms.</strong>

    Inner.  That way it won't be confusing to your friend because the invitation is for HER, and then you identify her and her SO on the inside envelope.

    Ms. Jane Doe.
    A divorced woman uses her given first name.  A divorced woman is no longer a Mrs.

    4) If you are giving a person a plus one (but they don't have a significant other), do you write "and guest" on outer envelope or inner envelope? or both?

    You put your friend's name on the outer envelope as the person you are inviting.
    Then you find out who she is bringing to the wedding - the invitations get mailed about 8 weeks in advance and if she's in that serious a relationship that she's asking the guy to go with her to a WEDDING, she will know the guy's name at the time you need it for the inner envelope.  Do not use AND GUEST ever.

    I am inviting single people with a guest, so I would have to write "and guest" because they aren't dating anyone at the time of the invites. If that changed later, I would always get the name then.  Anyone I know in a relationship has that person's name on it.
