Candy buffet versus a different favor

Hi ladies,

I posted this on the favor board as well, but wasn't sure how many people check over there so I am posting it here as well.

I need your advice. I can't decide if I want to do a candy buffet as my favors, or something different (our budget will not allow us to do both). The past several weddings I have been to have done the candy buffet. I personally do not ever take a bag, but I also don't care to have a candle or trinket with the couple's names/initials on it taking up space in my home. What are you all doing, and what do you prefer to get as a wedding guest? (There will be very few kids at our wedding, probably less than 10).

    We are doing a donation to Wounded Warriors, FI was in the Army and stationed in Iraq for a year, we are also giving each person a little silk baggie of chocolate.  We are doing a ton for dessert, cake and assorted cookies, so we figure everyone will be really happy.

    I love candy stations, but I've heard they are very expensive to pull off and make them look good just a heads up.

    We are doing a candy buffet. With the jars and the candy we are at $300. That is our favor, nothing else. However, we also aren't really doing cake. We are adding 6 dozen cupcakes to the candy table and thats it. Our venue offers cream puff type desserts at the tables with dinner.

    You can find jars on craigslist for pretty cheap, however, its the candy that costs a good amount of money.

    We have 9 jars, 9 scoops, and nine different kinds of candy. Plus we are making chocolate covered pretzels and putting those on metal serving trays my grandma had laying around.

    We're having a masquerade ball, so we're giving (non-personalized) masquerade masks as the favors and also a small bag of herskey kisses. I never remember the favors from weddings, so I decided to go with something that our guests can use while they're at our party. We are having fresh donuts and hot cider as a "late night" snack after dinner though.

    ETA: our venue will not allow us to bring in food that isn't packaged anyway, so the cute color coordinated candies wouldn't be part of a candy buffet if we did one, which is why we decided against it.

    We are doing a candy buffett as well, but it isn't really our "favor." We are also having a photobooth.

    I have some friends who already own glass jars, and they are letting me borrow them and the scoops. 

    I honestly haven't really thought about this - photobooth, candy buffett, and I was thinking of a different "favor" as a favor...(jar of honey, possibly.) Maybe I'm over-doing this...

    Sarah, I love your wedding design, sounds like tons of fun.  I've never been to a masquerade ball, but they look really cool in movies and tv shows haha.  Your wedding sounds really unique and fun especially with the "late night" snack.

    Our baker is amazing and makes the best fudge ever.  Seriously ever.  So we are doing  a little box of fudge with a tag that says something about "sweet somethings".  Ill figure out what to say some day.

    I am like you - I don't even take candles, matchbooks or mints left out for guests.  I simply don't want them.  So I won't spend money for others to leave them behind too. I think the candy buffet is a good idea.  They do tend to pop up at lots of weddings but they are popular for good reason IMO.  I'd much rather get a bag and get to hand pick my favorite candy than something I have no use for.  
    S'mores. Just S'mores please.

    We aren't doing favors either. Or anything to replace them. I haven't been to a ton of weddings, but the ones that I have gone to that have favors I have taken, but always end up throwing away after sitting in a closet for a while. Unless it's food of course - that's nice and if it's something I like I will definintely appreciate that!

    We are giving small bottles of homemade cranberry infused vodka as out favors in honor of Wisconsin since half of our guests are from California and know next to nothing about my new home state.

    We are doing a milk and cookies bar. I bake, he is a dairy farmer so we thought it'd be a good idea. I found 12 old fashioned milk bottles for 25 bucks at an antique gallery it took some bargaining, (thank goodness for my MOH!). The lady was asking 8 a bottle! So I'm planning on making batches of cookies ahead of time and freezing.

    You can file this under "Unpop ops" but we are giving away books.  FI is an English teacher and is going to school this fall because he got a full scholarship to get his Master's in creative writing.  There is a running joke that if FI gets you something for your bday or Xmas, it is going to be a book.  So, we thought it would be funny if we gathered a bunch of books with love or marriage related titles and had them on tables.  For example, we have a copy of "A Reliable Wife".  Anyway, I know that we should give something edible, but FI really loves the idea and we plan to donate any books that aren't taken.

    BTW - all of these books are coming from second hand stores, but they are in great shape.  FI really likes the hunt, since he loves book shopping anyway.
