Because it's slow...baby names

DH is convinced that this one is a boy as well. So we've been throwing names back and forth for a few weeks because it took us forever to name DS.

The only thing he likes is Harrison. It like the name, but I don't like it with our last name.

Unfortunately, not a lot goes nicely with out last name and we really don't want to use a name that a family member has. Considering I have a large extended family this makes it tricky.

So throw it out- suggestions for boy names.

If it's a girl I think I'm just going to choose the name and DH can deal.

oranjello. a friend of mine who knows someone who works in a hospital nursery said that one of the mother's named her son this, and i have loved it ever since. so unique!
  • We like Luke and Conner for boys names. And Hailey and Hannah for girls (middle name Rose).

I gave up caring about extended family names.  I love Benjamin, but my nephew is too closely related to us it.

</div><div>Boys names are tough.  And made even tougher by your last name.  I agree that Harrison Yourlastname is too much.  I have no suggestions other than my favorite name in the world for a boy or girl is Sam.  </div>
  • I just went to FB to verify your last name and think Sam Yourlastname or Samuel Yourlastname sounds terrific.   Done.
  • I like Samuel. DH is meh about it. Mostly because he doesn't like the idea of a nickname- like Sam. But he doesn't like Sam enough to make it just a first name.
  • Well tell your DH that AF said Sam will be the name and that's final.  :p
  • I also pitched Harrison, Harry for short.  My grandfather was a Harry, short for Harold (which we would never use).  DH wasn't crazy about it because if it's a boy, he's getting DH's first name (family name I don't love), and going by his middle name like DH.  DH said "If his first name is a family name, his middle name should be his own."  W/e.  I think maybe I can wear him down--he vetoed DD's first name when I first pitched it, solely on the grounds that it was the same first name as Bill Clinton's Secretary of State.  By the time we had our last childbirth class, he'd changed his mind and has been happy with it ever since.  LSS, don't give up on Samuel.  I like it, FWIW.

Of course, there's always Harold.  Go ahead, you can have it, we're not using it.  ;)

I'm running through the names of DD's male classmates looking for something to inspire you, but nothing yet.  Three Jacksons (DD would have been a Jackson if she were a DS, dodged a bullet there), Cameron, Colton, Patrick, Samuel.

Boys in 6let's class- Charlie, Blake, and 2 Aidans.  I love Samuel.  I can't even remember the names on our list.
  • I forgot about classmates...    Here are all of the boy's names I can remember from DD's class: Merrick, Benedict, Luke, Bo.   I like the name Luke a lot, and Bo isn't bad.   Actually, Bo might be growing on me.
DD had an Everett on her soccer team.  I probably wouldn't like that name except that he was THE cutest little guy.
    What about Henry?

i was going to suggest Jackson, but didn't realize that it is popular.

what were those triplets named? Miles, Oliver and Linus. i loved that set of names together. pick one and you won't go wrong IMO.

Samuel is really nice. i'm assuming DH junior is off the table? i don't think many people like juniors, so it's understandable.

Erik sounds nice with LastName. Sigmund, Daniel, Aaron, Andrew (my fav i think), sound good also.

(i looked up ethnic names for that short list)

Anyone else picturing the Dukes of Hazzard at AF"s school?

  • I like Henry but DH does not. My list is William, Emmett, or Elliott. DH is meh on all of them.

like, luke duke and bo duke? i used to think their names were so cool.

Charlie is a cute name. i definitely mentioned that one to H once.
  • As you can see, I am extremely busy at work. I have a mountain of reports to review, but instead I'm naming my tiny fetus.

Love William.  Andrew was on our short list for both boys.  Emmett makes me think of a cat.

My only issue with Charlie is it does not sound very grown up.
  • Hee @ Bo & Luke in the same class.  I hope they become best friends and muscle car enthusiasts.

I like Samuel.  If your H doesn't like Sam, how does he feel about Muel? ;-)

I'll add Owen to the list.  I've known a few people that used that name in the past few years, but I like it.  And it works with your LN.

  • I actually know a few people who named their girls Charlie. DS is Andrew so that's a no go. The problem is our last name. It's such a weird sounding name and is long. It doesn't make naming a kid easy without it being a mouthful or just odd sounding.

Totally forgot you already had an Andrew.  I have no clue what your last name is though.

  • DD rarely talks about the boys in her class, except for the two that are always in trouble (Merrick and Benedict) and then, of course, I remember the names Bo and Luke because of the Duke boys.   If only there were a Daisy in her class.

    ha, i forgot Andrew. duh.

personally, i would not even worry about your last name when naming him, because it might leave you with nothing to choose from. it doesn't seem like that big or long of a last name to me, but what do i know. it's not *my* name so i think differently about it.

    my last offerings are:

    Wyatt
    Avery
Emerson  (not really in love with this one)
    Michael

and if all else failt, go with Emmett. final answer.

  • Our short list included Zachary and Alexander. Zachary could work with your last name.
  • I love Elliot. That will be his name if he is a he. ~gavel~
  • How do you feel about Matthew/Matt?

  • Our boy name is Oscar Mark.
    Lilypie Pregnancy tickers
  • Matthew is out as that is one of DH's brothers.
  • I also came across Eamon (ay-mun). I sort of like that. I've got a long way to go so we've got time to figure out a name for a girl or a boy. Girl names are easier. There are so many I love: Iris, Camilla, Grace, Harper.

My cousin has an Eamon, and I like it.  Most people mispronounce it, so it kind of depends on whether that irritates you or not.

I would pronounce Eamon like the model.
