Dance lessons

So FI and I were looking at dj's last week, and it happened that one had a video of a wedding at our venue during the Father/Daughter dance.  FI is watching it and makes the comment that the bride's father really can't dance.  Then immediately, this look of shock and horror comes over him and he turns to me and says, "I really can't dance either, am I going to look like this?" 

So he wants to learn how to dance now, which I find adorable.  Not sure if we'll go to classes or just start dancing around the house more.

Has anyone taken dance lessons to prep for their wedding?

    I won dance lessons at a silent auction for charity, so FI and I already took one lesson before my cousin's wedding.  He randomly mentioned to me the other day that we need to take the other two lessons before our wedding, so I guess he's excited.

    Simply once he goes he might have fun with it, FI did.

    FI and I have been taking dance lessons since February. Our instructors are really relieved that we came to them 6 plus months before the wedding, because it gave them time to start teaching us the basics and work on choreography for our first dance song. The lessons we've had have been really fun and helpful. They're teaching us waltz, swing, foxtrot, and tango. We have been going twice a week, one group lesson and one private lesson. I'm hoping to continue taking classes and expand into Latin dance just as a couples activity after the wedding. :]

    Cooper what song are you two having a choerographed dance to?  Our first dance song isn't anything major so just a simply slow dance should suffice.

    I want to take dance lessons with my FH - but the logistics of it right now are making it impossible. We're not going to have a choreographed dance, we just want to learn some "sweet moves" so it's not middle-school-swaying-and-turning-in-a-circle dancing.

    I want to take dance lessons but it doesn't seem to be in the budget so it probably wont happen. We are not really big dancers anyways so it will probably be fine.

    Lplion that exactly how I convinved FI to take dance lessons.  We went to a wedding and our friends totally danced like high schoolers but worse cause instead of her putting her arms on his shoulders, he put his arms on her shoulders and they swayed back and forth.  It was cute, but I definitely want us to at least have a few moves.

    FI loves swing and flare, so he chose Michael Buble's version of "Feeling Good" for our first dance song. He vetoed every other song I suggested.

    The dance instructors say it's a great song but demands a performance, so they're helping us with choreography to pull it off so the dance is fun for us AND fun for everyone to watch. [It's long, almost 4 minutes. I tried to find a radio edit but apparently no such thing exists.]

    No.

    I did enough dancing and dance lessons when I was in Cotillion. I have no interest in ever doing ballroom dancing again and would be happy to spend the rest of my life without another foxtrot. We're more than likely not going to have any of those special dances because it's just not our style at all.

    Cooper I love Buble.  FI veteoed us using a classic style music.  It actually took a while to find a song for us, since he kept picking Beatles songs or songs all about the girl and I wanted a relationship song, or something classic.  We are doing Pretenders, I'll Stand by you, since there are verses that reflect him and verses that reflect me.

    But I really love your choice.  Make sure someone records your dance.

    We're actually planning to start out first dance like this as a joke. I just don't want FI to feel pressure to learn/remember a choreographed dance.  Originally we were looking at using Michael Buble's Hold On, which felt like it needed a choreographed dance, but the song we've decided to go with now is not like that at all.  So, unsure where to take it at this point.

    I think everyone's choices, even NOT dancing, are great. I'm loving dancing because I never had dancing and the opportunity to take lessons. I did love the idea of doing a more modern song. FI just happens to really like swing music. Alternately, is anyone doing one of the "standards" like Etta James's "At Last" for the first dance song, if you're doing a first dance?
